I have just bought a 996 C4s which I love, but it does not have a sports exhaust (shame) Has anyone put on an air induction kit ? If so which one, or is it best to go for the sports exhaust?

PSE without a doubt. Make the car sound like it should for a sports car !

It won't add bhp (nor will the the induction kit..) but it'll change your smile somewhat everytime you boot it .. smile

Inductions kits will just foul the Mass Air Sensor (especially an oiled one) - the stock box provides more than enough air into the throttle body IMO.

Go for a PSE, adds to the resale where a 3rd party will likely devalue things.

Get an indy to fit - then you can leave out the 'switch' which adds substantial cost to the labour - I take it you want it on all the time ... wink

I made my own PSE (welding in the bypass pipe) and fitted myself (only hassle was cutting out the siezed manifold bolts..) but well worth the effort - it transforms the car IMO ...

The majority of them use a filter medium lightly soaked in oil, this oil contaminates the MAF (it'll do the same to your warranty too, if you have one) wink

Yes, avoid induction kits! They do allow higher air flow but it's at a cost of filtration. You dont need 2bhp THAT much when yuo think that it will wank up your engine in time.

Probably best to search the threads on this forum for a balanced view (before you ditch your purchase) - I would guess at a 50/50 spread of opinion for and against fitting induction kits. I take from the discussion that fitted and maintained properly, an induction kit should not have a detrimental effect on your engine. Like anything really.

Which kit did you buy?

I ran a Fabspeed CAI for 2 1/2 years with no issues, I used a BMC F1 panel filter with this, I'm aware that several issues have been raised with over-oiled K&N filters.

All the CAI did was increase induction noise, I certainly didn't notice any BHP/Torque increase.

Well ..... yeah smile

I once saw a forum of Porsche racers who'd switched back from K&N to standard Porsche filters. Given that a year of racing will highlight potential problems from several years of road use, teams were finding that after 1000 track miles their engines had lost 30% power while running fancy-dan filters, they switched back to OEM filters and found their engines could run to 1500 miles with only 8% power loss.

An induction kit isn't going to knacker your engine anywhere near as quickly as that... but i just dont like them figures!

(But i still use a Pipercross foam filter on my ZX9R!)

I’ve decided to go for a PSE and take the K&N induction kit off. Interestingly Porsche at Tonbridge said they only would fit it with the switch, labour 7 hours UG! I will find some other place to fit it as I’m sure I won’t need the switch. They gave me a good price for the exhaust though, I asked for their best price and they gave me 10% off making it £1079.05 inc VAT
