Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to hard-wire a device (geodessy) into the main electric supply on a 993? I want to use the ciggie lighter socket for something else, and as I always use the geodessy, I thought it was time it was a permanent connection

Reasonably easy but depends how handy you are with the spanners. If you can remove the radio and cage (for ease of access) you can then pull the connector from the end of the ciggy lighter and tap into this feed for your geodessy. Either solder the new wiring onto the main connection points or use those autopak snap connectors - probably best to incorporate an in-line fuse of appropriate size too.

Dont forget your device may not be 12v. You may need a transformer to match the voltage of your device.

Apparently you can take a live feed from a acouple of places in the centre console. Have a look on p-car.com. It's under the section on hardwiring a radar detector IIRC.

I have one of these; but don't know how to remove the permanent backplate and cage, does anyone know a good substitute for the 'special tools' to remove these things?
