I've seen the flashy marketing in the hermetically sealed browser pop-ups, but could someone tell me if this is supposed to be the big brother of the turbo or the GT3? Or a bit of both?

It's a GT3 with a better engine, as with the 996.

Briefly:

997GT3 - Normally aspirated lightweight road/track car. RWD

997GT3RS - As above but lighter, wide bodied and much more of a track car than road car. RWD

997TT - Powerful Twin Turbo'd road car, very accomplished in all weather conditions. 4WD

997GT2 - As above with more power, less weight and suited to road or track. RWD.

So perhaps a bit of both then.

I didn't see it on the configurator, but would a guestimate of 120k base price be a million miles wrong?

So - a closer competitor / equivalent to the F430 - even though the standard turbo is at least as quick as the F430 - as I understand it.

By the way, did you notice the tagline under Detail-Aerodynamics? 'Resistance is Futile'. Is this a return to old attitudes I wonder?

Sounds so much better in the german, too. 'Widerstand ist zwecklos', useful phrase to have in reserve. The German site goes one better too. At the end of the trailer, up comes, in big letters 'ACHTUNG'. For you Tommy the war is over...or perhaps they are saving that for the 998?
