If you`re thinking of changing the bulbs in the car then save your money, we`ve spent a lot of money on bulbs that claim to fly you to the moon but which in reality do very little.
The way forward is to change over to a xenon (or litronic) type system which uses a separate box to power the bulbs. They are one of the single best mods you can do to your car for relatively little outlay. We fitted a single, then a dual (not legal for road use as far as I`m aware), sytem to the race car and the difference was staggering.
It is probably also worth changing the headlamp lenses at the same time as they aren`t that expensive on your car.
All the best.

Had the same issue and went to a fellow PHer to upgrade to Xenon units. Much better and although I didn't fit them, I'm told it's relatively easy.

No one needs to pay £400 for a kit! £125 and the results will be identical and you can have a budget holiday with the change.

I've got Alan's (ace_parts) xenon bulbs in my car (996); as Henry says, don't waste your money on super-dooper-spankingly-bright bulbs, my experience was that they blew in no time, as they had to run that much hotter to get the light o/p..PIAA one's aint cheap either.
My xenon kit fitted fine, and I only found out last week at the MoT station that the lights were well out of adjustment (cough), but they were pretty effective nonetheless! I've only used them once at night now they've been adjusted (I'm not generally allowed out after dark), lot better....everything appears as daytime, strange sensation, not "bling bright" just curiously illuminating, picks out detail such as pedestrians, very very well. For the money, no questions versus chav-bulbs.
Bear in mind though that *technically* they shouldnt pass an MoT without a self levelling system (ie pukka Litronics)...depends how well you get on with your MoT chappy!
