My old fellas 2002 911 Turbo X50 with only 8.5k on it threw the towel in this weekend. After a spirited change from 2nd to 3rd, the gear stick had obviously become detached from the linkage / box, just flopping around.

Luckily it was stuck in neutral and just coasted to a standstill, where I had to tow him home - slightly red faced!

The question is............. Happened before? is this a common thing before the stealers take his pants down for the repair.

Any help appreciated.

Apparently its a weak point, crap bit of plastic for linkage that breaks easy, they're cheap upgrades avail, someone will be along soon who's done it smile

one of the Porsche forum mods - Dazren has run an x50 from new and has had this problem

have a look at his profile as he details all the work carried out to it. i am sure there is info in there about the gear linkage

Happened to my car. Very common problem which a number of enthusiastic PHers have experienced.

Details in this link, August and September 04, including links to fitting instructions etc.

I've seen evoms have appointed a UK distributor, details here:

Link to relevent page of UK distributor:

Looks like £90 plus postage. Cheaper than I paid buying from the US, once couriers and taxes etc are added on.

I had the same problem and got stuck in second gear 2 minutes from OPC Tonbridge at 4.30 pm- they would not touch it. Had a new bit fitted at OPC Reading (fitted badly and came undone the next day) and so went down the same route as Daz with 20% quickshift. Never been a problem since but I carry the tools so that I don't take 5 hours to get ohome
