Goodwood PCGB sprint results?
Discussion
OK OK...how much of this is the driver, then? Is Colin's car 3 secs quicker than Timmo's (lovely, well prepared) GT3? Or is he a 3 seconds faster driver?
I mean, looking at the 2 cars side by side at Croft, I would have guessed that Timmo's car should be quicker over a lap on a conventional circuit being more modern, even if its power to weight ration may bve slightly down on Colin's special 993 RS (400BHP, pretty light). This could explain why Tim beat Colin at Croft.
But on a twisty hill climb, perhaps the advantage lies with Colin's smaller, more darty car?

and well done to 9M & Timmo
Timmo,
how come you went faster in Practice?!?
Seriously, Goodwood is a difficult track at the best of times, so unless you did a trackday in the month leading up to the event there is no way that you could nail on from the get go, I reckon you would need 10 laps to be right on the pace. Even after my last winning run (4th lap) I was still re-learning the speed of the circuit and in truth was a bit miffed with myself for not getting close to my 2006 time of 89.3secs.
As for the difference in speed between my 993RS and Timmo's GT3RS, in my opinion the 993RS is slightly faster in a straight line but does not handle as well on its soft standard suspension, brakes are probably fairly evenly matched. The Motec launch control is a bit of a red-herring, all it does is give me consistent starts over the first 64ft and does not improve on my best manual launch, with TC on I do 2.25second starts, my best ever was 2.18s. The main difference is probably my confidence in the car from the years of running it in the same specification. At Goodwood, on my last run I had it flat to the boards from the first apex at Madgwick over all the bumps to the entry of No-Name, similarly flat from the first apes of Lavant to then brake from 145mph at 35yds past the 150 marker, going into the Woodcote complex with full-on ABS up to the turn in point; both of which need a huge leap of faith.
Croft in April was first time I had driven the car since Sept 2006 due to late arrival of engine parts (engine finished on the Friday before the event) and although I could make more of Timmo having the benefit of a warm tyre re-run following a timing system failure, the truth is that he simply out-drove me on the day and deserved his win.

I wish you would enter the Porsche Open with your 993 RS. It would be interesting to see how far up the finishing order you could get.I dont think that Colin's car would be competitive in the Open. It would be entered in class 1 but in reality I think a 996 cup in class 2 would comfortably be quicker. On saying that, if Colin applied his engine building skills to developing a Gt3RSR in class 1 that would be interesting .......

I agree with all that. I think he wants to get his teeth more into GT3s/Cup cars in due course. I would.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
