Hello all, I'm a long time lurker and have recently got myself a 996TT.

I have a few questions which I'm sure someone in here can help me with!

Does anyone have any pics of 19" Wheels on their turbos? I'm not sure what to go for! Love the Techarts and would love to see Ruf wheels (are they even available?)

DMS - Is this a good idea?

Exhausts - I came from a PSE C4S and find the noise pretty lame to say the least..what are my best options?

Sorry to just barge in and ask so many questions but I'm sure you all will understand!

I will take a negative slant on your query although i could be totally wrong.

1. 19's ruin the ride

2. DMS voids warranty and we have had differing opinions on how much of a change really occurs as when various magazines have tested them - they never seem to match quoted DMS figures.

3. Exhaust - I also have the PSE on my C4S and agree that it is weak until maybe over 4k rpm. - Friends Gallardo sounds awsome as soon as you turn the ignition although like him, after a few hours driving - It does start to piss you off/give you a sore head smile

I am one of these guys that likes to keep things to the manufacturers settings.

I think the the PSE on a C4S sound vastly better than a standard Turbo.

I have a Milltek exhaust on my TT and that still doesn't sound as 'good' as the PSE.

Exhausts sounds are pretty subjective though!

The 996TT was set up by Porsche to run 18 inchers, 19 inchers are oversized & will affect, ride, handling balance, speedo etc! I'd stick with 18's if you enjoy driving rather than posing!

Personally not a fan of any after-market boost increase, it would be so easy for Porsche to do this themselves, but even for the extra 30 horses offered by the X-50 they also beefed up the clutch, exhaust & gearbox! Most aftermarket companies just hack into the ECU & increase the boost pressure without touching anything else. Clearly this MUST increase the internal pressures on the engine! Whilst small 20-30 bhp increases are unlikely to affect the internals in the short term, they may well for the next owner come re-sale with higher miles! IMO big gains WILL cause future problems without modification of internals!
Of course there are plenty of people who have taken this route without problems, but I saw my standard 996TT engine go pop at under 30k miles, it was under warranty but the bill for these engines is HUGE!
Personally beyond a sports exhaust I wouldn't modify the car, better go original X-50 or GT2!

The Turbos sports exhaust has the cats built in so after-market systems are expensive, but race cats do offer about 20 extra horses,& the extra sound is worth having, the turbos also spool up a little quicker! You must ensure the cats are of good quality otherwise you will have future MOT problems & also that the system doesn't boom excessively at around 2k revs, they all do, but some are simply unbearable!!! I added one to mine & loved it (Cargraphic) but as others have said it still isn't as loud as the C2/4s due to the Turbo pluming! A used one is the probably the best route to go, saves costs incase you don't get on with it, but be sure to keep the existing system for re-sale.

Thanks Grant!

Useful information! You have definately put me off the wheels..not so sure about the DMS though - all the reviews I have read are very impressive...

Will keep my eye out for a 2nd hand exhaust. Any ideas where to look anyone??

Thank you kindly!

19'Wheels will make the ride harsh but the right wheel can make it worth it, check the yellow 996tt on my info. This car was DMS'd along with several other's including my current GT2,which to be fair has also recieved uprated clutch and suspension but believe me I could certainly tell the difference DMS made!! Speak to Rob he's a decent guy.
As for Exhaust if you really want to exploite the true potential of the car it is a must, if you have the ££ go the whole hog and get the headers to. Have used Billy Boat in the past which sounded superb, the Miltek is a little more passenger friendly. Whatever you decide enjoy lick Richard.

Is the yellow one a turbo, or GT2? What did you have done? Splitter wheels etc?

Agree. That splitter makes the front much more rounded, almost a 997 look about it. I know what you mean about yellow, but it looks bloody good to me. (not an yellow car fan)

19" are a little more harsh, but in my opinion look the boocks.

DMS is a fantastic modification to your car, I know quite a few people with a DMS remap and not one of them has encountered a problem.

Been told categorically that any aftermarket exhaust will invalidate my OPC Warranty.
