best 911 for 15k?
Discussion
An absolutely minter of a 3.2 Carrera with less than 100k miles at that price too ... or a very nice 964.
A good price bracket for those cars and it will buy you a good one of either model.
Old school looks and a stonking whaletail, go for the 3.2 ... mine was a revelation.
Slightly more modern with an option of 4WD, go for the 964.

just had a look on the classifieds..
definatly will find a good one for 15k..
i know i need to test drive a few ,but what are the
benefits/negatives on a 964 or 3.2?
thanks for any advice..
currently running an alfa romeo gtv 3ltr..
how do you think they will compare to the alfa?
the reason i want to sell the alfa is electrical problems
and the handling copes but nothing special.

Personally with that budget I'd go for a mint 3.2 Carrera, but you absolutely must test drive both the 3.2 and the later 964. There are a lot of dogs around of both types, so be very wary of any apparent bargains. It's better to pay top money and get a well cherished example with loads of history. Avoid modified cars too, stick to standard factory spec. Aftermarket wheels, body kits, steering wheels etc. will all devalue the car, especially the older 3.2. I'd also avoid the wide bodied Supersport cars too, unless you specifically want the Turbo look.
I've owned several 911s, including a 964 and a 3.0 Carrera (pre-cursor to the 3.2). The older cars certainly have more character, but the 964 is a good compromise between old and new. It really comes down to personal preference. The 3.2 Carrera is THE landmark Porsche of the 80s, just as the '73 2.4 is THE landmark Porsche of the 70s. But the 964 is just a transitional update, so lacks a bit of historical charisma. Hope that makes sense!

I'm disappointed - a whole hour has passed and no-one has yet suggested checking to see whether 996s have hit £15K yet....
Did someon say Boxster? I'm sure someone said Boxster.

(964 C2 with a top-end rebuild done ideally. C4 is nice but the C2 is the more rewarding drive. Mileage irrelevant as long as all the bits have been done)
