No doubt in my mind, faster is better, get the "S" with less toys on.

With £40k to spend my money would go on a 993RS but if its Boxster flavoured pork you desire its got to be an S, what on earth do you need toys for when you have a screaming flat six and a sweet chassis ?

It's a personal decision. Depends on your own priorities. Also depends on how fast your previous cars have been and hence what you're used to. Test drive both, they're great cars. Me, I went for the S, and if they did a more powerful version I'd probably go for that. Also, IMHO some options are essential, e.g. leather interior, decent stereo, wind deflector.

Thisis a quote from the Top Gear Calendar, for the month of June:

Do you know the difference between our Porsche Boxster S and a plain old ordinary Boxster? Well, the S has white dials, bigger ventilated and cross-drilled discs, red callipers, and it's £7,000 more, you idiot!

Is that true? or BS???

I'm sure the S had an uprated engine...

Rico what you have read is total bollocks.

The different colour dials is a cost option on boxsters and 996. More importantly the S has a 3.2 instead of the 2.7 litre engine, which puts out an additional 50ish bhp.

i' ve had a S for 2 weeks & would not have even considered a regular 2.7 box.
i' d rather have considered a 993 cab or even 964.

The S is the car for the enthusiasts. The 2.7 is a nice car, but you' ll soon crave for more power.

Why don' t you look in the adds? There are plenty of S with lots of toys & low miles well below £35k... let alone £40k...

You could find a 2002 with sat-nav & all & less than 10k miles.

That' s what i would do (well that' s what i have done).

Regards,
E.

The S is well worth the extra wedge, for the money you get...........
3.2 litre engine

6 speed gear box (only 5 on 2.7)

Uprated suspension.

uprated brakes as 996

aircon (extra on 2.7)

plus white dials & various badges & extra's

It always used to have an extra layer of insulation on the roof as well although I'm not sure about the facelift cars.

BUY THE S it goes, handles, sounds & stops better a GGGreat car, all this talk of 993's, the things are nearly ten years old & showing it. Great focused drivers cars, nice sound...BUT the Boxter S is a better
package, sorry guy's but it is, I know it hasn't got the macho image but in all other ways it is the best value car in the Porker range.

A Boxster S is so good, I have no idea why people buy 996 cabriolets (unless they have kids).

I have seen well driven S's keeping up with 996's on unfamiliar twisty roads many times.

Glad this subject has come up.

Husband and I were talking about what to get next and wondering if it was worth upgrading from the 2.7 Boxster to the 3.2.

Seems you've already answered any questions I had.

Cheers
