Guys,

I am in the USA at present and am looking at a number of CGT's out here.

Aside from the horrible orange running lights on the front bumper (which I think I can live with, just!)- WHAT, exactly, are the differences between US and Euro cars??

I'd heard the rear light cluster might be/are different??

Is there any other material differences? someone suggested that the cars migth be "set-up" differently - and I didnt know if they meant the suspension or the ECU mapping etc?

Any feedback gratefully received.

Thanks!

This is the list of conversion items from a German spec. car to a US spec. car.

I also believe that a number of the US cars were delivered with the 10mm spacers to increase ride height.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Steve

LIST OF CHANGES FROM C00 (GERMAN SPEC.) TO C02 (US SPEC) - PER OFFICIAL PORSCHE DOCUMENT

- Front covering with additional sidemarks

- USA specific main headlights (modified road illumination)

- USA specific tail lights (direction indicator red instead of yellow)

- Abolition of rear fog light left, including switch on instrument panel: in exchange, a second back up (reversing) light is fitted

- Outside door mirror on driver's side flat (instead of aspherical)

- USA specific license plate holders (smaller)

- USA specific labels (including adhesive labels)

- Radio remote control 315MHz (instead of 433 MHz)

- Inflation pressure monitoring transmission frequency 315MHz (instead of 433MHz)

- USA specific instrument cluster (mph instead of km/h, F instead of degree C) [probably not changed for UK from US]

- USA specific navigation CF for radio navigation

- OBD II (instead of EOBD)

- ORVR (additional leak diagnostics fuel tank system)

- Ends -

Thanks guys - especially Stefan1

seems that most of those things are either not material or are easly returned to Euro spec.

I wonder how many of the US spec cars in the UK have been converted properly??

I can't imagine new rear light clusters are cheap??

I wonder what discount one should consider for a non UK/Euro car against a US import?? £20k?? £30K??

in the past 993rsr said the total cost for SVA approval was 2.5k, obviously including lights

ps. if you want to import tax free, im happy to drive it around for 6 months and import as 'my personal car' for you wink

It is not expensive if you opt to keep the "horrid" orange side marked front PU -I believe Stephan's car went the whole hog inc front PU so is proper Euro now smile
The rear lights are ~£2K and the fronts are OK with a letter from manufacturer stating they meet EU requirements (thanks to JC for that info)
The cars with the 10mm extended suspension arms I would say are the exception, most CGTs worldwide were standard ride height and supposedly had exactly the same suspension tuning the tech manual (printed for the US market) stated that they were delivered with the most aggressive rear anti roll bar setting but all the ones I have heard of are set in the middle !

I too don't like the orange running lights, and after a price from Porsche of circa. £4k for a new PU had a bodyshop 'fill' the holes and repaint the bumper. The lines are far cleaner with the running lights omitted.
