Can anyone recommend a good independent near High Wycombe please? My Boxster is due for a service in 2000 miles but the brake pads are getting low and so I need to get them replaced before then (in time for the Silverstone track day next month!). I'd rather not pay Porsche dealer prices for something simple like this, but equally don't want to go to someone that's going to fit the wrong type of pads.

On a separate note, is it worth fitting high-performance pads given that I use the car for track days? The pads have lasted c. 10K miles since new, including one track day. Not sure of this normal wear or not.

Cheers
John

Probably nearest to you is Fearnsport in Bicester 01869 240558 07730 989895, Andy the boss is well known to most of the PH Porsche guys and you will normally spot one of the regulars cars up there.

Ref pads, yes definatly worth going for an uprate, lots of choice out there but I'm a fan of EBC greenstuff as a first step, (not sure of Boxster availability tho) better than OE but not sqealy in road use like a much harder race pad. see how you find 'em you may want some thing harder like EBC reds or Porterfields of Pagids etc later on.

Greenstuff will be too soft for the boxster. Use the redstuff- they are fine for road as well. I used greenstuff on my 968 and they faded on the road. I spoke to ebc and they suggested redstuff for this type of car.

I used Tognola Engineering in Dachett, near Windsor. No problems and excellent service.

You could try G Force Motorsport in Aylesbury... I've got no personal experience, but there was an interesting article about them in GT Purely Porsche. See www.g-force-motorsport.co.uk/menu/menu.htm or 01296 434 084. They're a touch nearer than Bicester I think. And they do Porsche racing, so may well be able to advise on pads...

I highly recommend JZMachtech too (I drive down from Northampton to get there) but brake pad swapping is well within the realms of anyone who knows how to jack the car up and take the wheels off A set of front Boxster pads will be under £50 according to most of the mags I've just looked at.

Once you get in to trackdays you soon learn how to change your own pads

Thanks Guys, I'll get a couple of quotes this weekend. AFN want about £325 for standard pads all round. I might have a go at doing them myself, I did a set on a Laguna once. Shame Haynes don't do a Boxster maintenance manual!

Do 'em yourself mate - dead easy. There's plenty of people here that can give advice if you get stuck.
