boxster brakes
Discussion
just had the MOT on the boxster, said it needed new front brake discs to pass. the main dealer has quoted £400 plus the dreaded
for the front brake set (pads & discs) sounds a bit pricey to me as had quotes of sub £200inc for supposedly the same parts... the main dealer said that when the change the discs they have to change some sensors and an anti-virbation device as well? anybody else heard of this or is it something where they have banlanced the discs? - is this a job we can do or is it garage only?

I dont know if I'm supposed to do this so if I'm not I apologies and wont do it again!, but I dont want to see anyone ripped off by an OPC

Someone will give you a detailed 'correct' answer to your question
But from what I know, you only have to replace the sensors if the disc has run very, very low and thay have become damaged, this is not the usual case. And anti vibration shims, cost pennys!!

Sounds a bit pricey to me as well, trouble is your OPC labour rate could be anything up to approx £100 per hr so that tots the price up a bit.
The sensors are your brake pad warning sensors- minimal cost- somat like £20 apair I think, the vibration things refer to the anti squeel shims, which stop the pad chatteringing in the caliper again small cost.
I'm supprised the price is so high, try a local specialist & see what they charge as a while back when OPC's realised the specialists undercut them on so much work esp brakes they lowered their prices significantly.
Changeing pads is not rocket science, but a decent technician will also look at anything else that may need replacing or maintenance needed at the same time & I really don't advise you mess with brakes unless you know what you are doing.
