Who is going?

Rumours have it that Don, Domster, GregE240 and Derestrictor might put in appearances. Anyone else?

I'm considering putting in my late entry.....

I'm going. May bring my tech as named driver, too, as the Baron will only have been freshly screwed back together.

You will only be allowed to bring the RS2 tho' Jez as it has Porsche bits in it. The Caterham SLR is far faster than the Baron and therefore disallowed

I'll be there in a pitcrew capacity (have a tyre pressure gauge) and scrounger of passenger rides in convertibles. Are you up for the Gregmeister CurryLagerFest on thursday night as well?

The RS2 will of course be coming.

As a tow car for the Caterham.

Jawhol mein Herr,

I shall be losing it immediately through Copse, displaying just the correct dose of stratospheric incompetence.

And what a fcuking expensive pollava it's turning into already: apart from the entry cost itself which is borderline outrageous, I'm having to purchase some form of protective hat this week, along with some sweat resistant gloverettes and possibly a pair of those ever so dainty, slightly effete driving slip on Hush Puppy jobbies.

Added to which indignity, I'm receiving a right royal rogering thanks to my dangerous exposure to Gruppen Fhurer Hindley at Waffen Tech9, in respect of new front discs, pads, a stiffer rear roll bar and of course, the crowning turds in the water closet themselves, the utterly critical gutterschleppers.

Frankly, I blame that west country loon, McDazzikov, for it was unquestionably my ill-fated duel along Brunter's finest mile and a bit that began the rot that invariably affects the heavy footed breakapellago amongst the over steroidal beetle crew.

Other than that, I really can't wait.

Hurrah for Harry and a mound of dead Frenchmen.

As Daz himself might suggest, somewhat vocally: ACHTUNG! SCHNELL! SCHNELL!

Does anybody know what the noise limit will be?

Don't know about noise limits. If you are concerned telephone PCGB and ask to speak to Steve Kevlin.

I'll be there, hopefully thumbing a lift off of Bolt-on Boy himself when he finally makes an appearance at our place.

Jezza, there's a curry near me on the Thursday before, if you want to come along you're more than welcome.

Greg.

A lot of Porsche owners are using the evening event this year. I used some of them last year, really very good and excellent value. £300 plus for PCGB 3 x 20 min sessions per hour during the day. Evening is £105 for min 1.5 track time (17:30 to 20:30). Starts as 1 x 30 and 3 x 20 min sessions per 2 groups, but usually goes to open pit lane.
Day = PCGB, Evening = Goldtrack, both use the full GP circuit. Evening, 3 laps with Calum Lockie for £30.

Jesus, is that it?

Forgive my inexperience in these matters but 3 x 20 minutes doesn't sound like very much or is it actually more than adequate given the (intensity of) action?

(Then again, I'm confident it will only take me several seconds to need towing to the spannermeister )

You misunderstand Herr Klerkenblurter

3x20 sessions per hour... so you will be on track for 20 mins in blue group (if you elected for dunce status comme moi) per hour throughout the day.

Track is open for 6 hours or so, meaning 6x20 min sessions. This will be more than enough for you and the car.

It will feel like you've been ragging Wolfgang and testing your mental limits for a whole day

NO! That is NOT it! For £300+ that would be a disgrace!

Its 20 minutes in the hour for each group. There are three driving hours in the morning and at least three in the afternoon. You should get six sessions on track.

You need a break in between sessions to let the car and tyres cool...and to let your brain recover...twenty minutes hard concentration turns out to be quite knackering after the fourth or fifth time. Last year I didn't even use the last session as I was knackered - and once you are knackered its time to stop for safety's sake. Having a momentary lapse of concentration on a long journey is one thing - having brain fade at 120mph approaching a fast corner is quite another!

I have HUGE admiration for race drivers who can keep up that kind of intensity of concentration for hour after hour during endurance races...

Rest assured, DeR, me friend. You are not being cheaped out on at the PCGB day - there will be plenty of track time - more than enough to get quite thoroughly tired of it.

Frankly I'm amazed that anyone would do the day and then continue on with Goldtrack!!! Wow - that's some dedication.

Normally on these events, three groups are made up according to speed/experience. Your group then get 20 minutes evey hour. ie a lot more time than 3 * 20 mins. This format also allows a 40 minute break in between sessions for both the driver and the car!

Have faith OB1.

Dom - going in Blue group is not dunce status!

It is the group for

a) Drivers who are new to it (ok - dunce status! )
b) Drivers of less powerful vehicles

Some of the track machinery in the "top" group fairly hurtles around - I'm not sure I'd join that group with my Boxstaaa even IF I thought my level of expertise up to it...

Nope - I aspire to the "intermediate" group - and will only "move up" if I am convinced that I am getting overly held up in Blue....

BTW - a good tip for the day is to do the first half lap very slowly...then up the speed. By doing that you let the little group that wants to "race" (of course not!) one another get a nice long way away - and you can see if you can catch up - always satisfying. Silverstone is a big circuit and if you space yourself out its like being on track by yourself...marvellous.

Agree, 20 mins on track at any time is enough for both car and driver. I find 30 mins is sort of OK, but usually dont use the full 30 mins. Open pit lane is by far the best option, you can use whatever time you feel capable of, e.g. 5 mins, 10 mins, 30 mins etc. what you don't get with open pit lane format, is a bl**dy queue at the start of each session, with each driver trying to use their alloted 20 mins at the same time.

I don't know anyone that that drives on both the combined day and evening events. I have managed to get rides during the day, and enjoy the evening driving. You do get 'tuned' into the circut conditions much quicker.

Even with brake cooling ducts, racing fluid etc, my car can't take much more than 20 mins a time at Silverstone.

Usually get around 150 track miles in a PCGB day, 1 full tank of go juice. Most I've ever done is 250 track miles in a day at Spa, 2 tanks of juice.

Domster ,have you got your RS back yet?

I would definitely take it easy as you have not driven it for a while.
I want to get a couple of thousand road miles to acquaint myself with mine before I take it on a track.

The Baron is nearly ready. Engine meant to be going back in today. My tech will come along anyway, to keep an eye on stuff.

I will be taking it v easy anyway. Not worried about not having driven the old girl in a while, unless it's raining, in which case I may not venture out... in the dry the RSs are much more benign.

Will be familiarising myself with Silverstone via the excellent Circuit Driver CD, so at least I know which way the corners go. Plus, I am a Blue urchin, so firmly know my limitations

Noise limit is 105db, which should be fine for most cars.

Shame it is sessioned, rather spoils the day!
