Actually I know why they do this but i'm going to rant anyhow.

We've got a 3 year old Boxster 2.7. Had it serviced a year ago at Porsche Centre Colchester and it's gone in for another yearly service plus MOT today. Car is bloody marvellous quite frankly, but we've been looking for a bit more power of late.

Can't afford a 996 so thought about a Boxster S. Asked PCC if we could borrow a Boxster S and they agreed but if they thought this car would sell the S to us they're severely mistaken.

Bloody thing keeps pulling to the left, the clutch is so heavy it leaves my left leg trembling when I get out of the car, the seat adjuster is shagged to the point where I can't move the seat out of the lowest position (i'm 5ft 2ins and can barely see over the steering wheel - stop laughing at the back ) and the rear boots on the thing are only just within the legal limit.

I realise that they probably use it for every waster that fancies a Boxster S to punt around in but surely, when they're dealing with established customers who are serious about upgrading it might be worth their while to provide a decent motor to try and sell the bloody thing!

Rant off!

Did a certain Mr Iguana have the car for a 'test drive' just before you?

Couple of points:

1) Really sorry to hear of your experience.

2) Why not try test driving a new one? Ask for the dealers demo car for a few hours and see how you get on - bound to be a better experience then the dribblers' cast off?

3) My missus is five feet zero and has no trouble driving hers (bit fast, but hey...). I can see no reason why you shouldn't be comfortable.

4) Rear tyres ain't cheap. Emma has manged to stave off the Michelins until the near future (24K on the clock) and thats going to be a bit dear...time to shop around then. The Porsche dealer said they could do her a good price on them anyway - we'll see.

Best of luck.

ps Greg 24k from Boxster tyres, surely you don't mean the rears! thats got to be imposible unless she drives like my mum does she drive with an egg under the throttle pedal?? I reckon on getting 10k from rears in a rwd car with a bit of grunt is doing very well & 8k about right if its had no track days.

Don what do you get from ya rears?

Greg. You and Emm are not trying.

Significantly less than that...although I think I could get 12-15K out of them if I didn't do track days.

I was lucky enough to get 5K out of my tyres recently as the A82 near Loch Lomond ate two of them.

I'm thinking of changing from Michelin Pilot Sport to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres which are road-legal track day tyres. Won't last long but who cares. I might manage to outrun some other Porsches in the dry after that...

Thats a good milage Don, I guess the old PSM saves em a bit.

I had an E30 325i on long loan from a mate years back, I return the car to him & he coments I've hardly worn the tyres in 10k miles, I had to admit they were the 3rd set in that time Oh well I was young and foolish, I'd probably only get through 2 sets nowadays

For tyre appetite you wanna ride a bike, I get through rears in 3K and ive not even got much power, thats pretty normal for hard riding tho but how some people get 12k from the same tyre on the same bike I realy don't understand. Well i do I 'spose but if I rode like that I'd end up in a coma coz I'd be so bored

I say go to another dealer, unless they are usually very good to you & this is a one off ! If they can't give you due respect there are plenty of other dealers out there. We were given a nearly new Boxter S whilst
my car was in for work & guess what , the other drove it & ended up selling her MG VVC & getting an "S"... it is a great car (as is the 2.7) & worth the extra ............ GO ON YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE

Just replaced the rears on my S for the first time. 11.5K from new, including 2 track days (with PSM). £180 each. Fronts still have about 5-6 mm on them. Brake pads are apparently about 80% worn.

I'm surprised at said dealer's attitude - ask to speak to Gary Pike and tell him you're serious but want to drive a decent example - he'll sort you a decent car out. If that doesn't work, go and see their colleagues at Hartston Cambs...

Quite funny in the end yesterday.

Dealer phoned to tell me what was wrong with my car which took 5 mins (new brake pads and windscreen wipers required) and I then took 15 mins telling him what was wrong with his car!

Probably didn't get me anywhere with regard to borrowing a decent car but made me feel better and husband laughed! Will give Gary Pike a call this afternoon as advised (ta for that).

Just stumbled back on this thread and all I can say is:

Cheeky bastards. I'll tell my missus and set her on you at the next Brunters when she will:

a) Whup your pikey ass, gippo boy, and;
b) Outrun the Guards Red nemesis.

You watch!

Sorry to drag up this old chestnut but I thought I would fill you in on the final outcome.

Sent a letter detailing the problems on the S on Friday and got a call from Gary Pike at OPC Colchester first thing Monday morning. The car has been recalled and he was really apologetic that the car went out in that state - really nice bloke!

Anyhow, our options for next year were either a new Boxster S or a second hand 996 and Gary's colleague Nick Coleman has very kindly offered to loan us a 996 for the weekend of Eynsham Hall (29th - 31st August PCGB) to see how we like it!

Well done OPC Colchester - fantastic!!!

I'm in exactly the same position, but Stratstone of Wilmslow's approach is, shall we say, rather less enthusiastic.

What Boxster did you test drive, a red with black leather by chance, with about 13500miles?????
