Running in times?
Discussion
I was told the same. 4k revs for first 800 miles. The manual however said first 1,800 miles with max 5k revs. I combined the two. first 800 below 4k, then over the next 1,000 miles started occasionally increasing through to 5k revs when I'd done 1,800 miles, running in was over. Some have suggested taking longer with the running in though.

The manual says inder 4000 rpm for first 3000km (1800 miles).
With mine I took it really easy.long runs varying revs etc..Mine was a 320bhp 996 and 4000rpm equates to 116mph.
The early miles really do dictate the oil consumption of the cars in later life, mine did not use 1/2 litre mobil 1 in 7000 miles.
The TT uses a different block and I understand they use a little more oil during the running in period.
I really think caution in the early days pays dividends later with Porsche engines.

Congratulations on the new beast..what colour & spec??
As clubsport says, early thrashing seems to lead to high oil consumption during the cars life (although no other apparent problems). I have also heard that if you are "too" cautious then the car will not perform as well later in life...all to do with the way it's bedded in...supposedly !! I have always kept to light-ish, but variable throttle opening's & max 4k for the first 800 miles & then gradually added 1000 revs per 100 miles & then "Thrashed it" Porker's were meant to be driven !

Yep. That's what I did on mine and it barely uses any oil at all. Once the 1800 was over I limited myself to only occasional redline antics up to about 4000 miles when I gave it the spanking it deserves on a Track Day. I can honestly say that the engine just keeps getting better and the whole car a more slick package with time - 8500 miles and counting...
Thanks for the excellent (as always) advice.
