Eynsham 40th anniversary bash

First up: What a posh car park!
Sorry I had to make a swift exit this a.m. and thus missed some of you - forgot I was supposed to be putting in an appearance at the local village fete (tut).
Still - a well organsied entertaining/informative show I thought. The orange Porsche tractor did it for me.
I've put a few pics up to give a bit of a flavour for those who couldn't make it... here >>> www.stevecarter.com/pcgb/40.htm

Quality photos Steve. what kind of camera do you use?
I managed to get along to Eynsham Hall for a bit today. Took a few pics myself but they are a bit more of the "point and click" variety. Might still be of interest to anyone who couldn't get there ...

Bought myself a copy of the Steve McQueen Le Mans DVD from the Chaters stand, so I'm off to watch that, the fact the girlfriend is a bit of a Steve McQueen fan means she shouldn't object too much to spending her Saturday evening watching a "car film"!

Went Saturday with the boss (read Mrs!) great day out
talk about O.D. on Porkers !!!! Cost me as her BoxterS had orange lenses & now has clear (the flexible friend is rigid!) !!!!!If you saw some prat in the car park trying to wedge two huge boxes into the back of a silver 996TT it twas me !!!!
I Could "sense" the friendly rivalry between each model group 924vs944vs968..all the early 911's vs 911SC vs 911clubsport vs 964 vs 993 vs RS vs Turbo all of whom won't even talk to the watercooled brigade 996's PAH, Boxters..double PAH !!AND WE WON'T EVEN MENTION THE CAYANNE. I simply LOVED the concours, with tooth brushes in the engine & wheels off to clean the inside edges !!
PISSED THAT I MISSED PISTONHEADERS, I saw DAZ's car, but no Daz & I even checked the bar !!!!
CALLING...CLUBSPORT did you go on Saturday, were you in a black left-hand drive 993RS...M reg....very nice. If so I followed you out of Evesham flashing & indicating for you to pull over, you probably thought what's that plonker doing & put your foot down!! I then had to turn off suddenly as the sexy lady in the Sat Nav, suddenly decided to say "turn right NOW" up some back road, got home via outer mongolia.
Any way good day out, trouble is she wants 18" carrera wheels as well...bugger !!

Grant - so you have a woman in the dash that sends you every which way also eh? Thought it was just me. Mine told me to do a U turn on a motorway a while back
Chris - my camera = Nikon D1X - weighs slightly more than a 911, and only just fits into one, but takes great pics.

Lots of interesting cars, very similar to the TIPEC event a couple of months ago - even the big house looked the same! Spoke to a nice chap with a rare 924 Carrera GT with the cool faired in headlights - he also had a 924 Turbo and a 928!
I took my mate Di (rsi1974) along and I think she enjoyed it but I didn't manage to convert her to Pork - she wants a 200SX now
We met up with Dazren, Clubsport, SFV and Domster. Was most impressed by the wheel/brake combination on the 968!
sorry we couldn't stay longer and have a drink
Hope to see everyone at the next meet!

An excellent day out that started with an early rise on saturday morning followed by the obligatory hoon cross country deliberately avoiding motorways. I arrived at about 10.30am. Journey hoonage details are probably best not discussed on a public forum, but like Derestrictor I remain a Porscheholic!
Thoughout the day I saw SFV, Buster & Sarah, Clubsport,AJLintern, Rsi1974, MauriceC2S and the 964RS Gurus Messrs Domster & Melv.
Immediately following the midday meet by Melv's car the Beer tent was located and lunch was drank on the terrace for an hour or so.
Highlight for me was the chap on the Gantspeed stand who gave me the tour (including lifting the engine cover) of the 959 on their stand, which was a prototype developement vehicle which they are about to commence restoring for a client.
Shame I didn't meet eveyone but there is always next time. Grant the M reg 993RS was clubsports car, trying to look hardcore he had taken the passenger seat out the night before so it looked more of a trackcar than road car. Clubsport will tell you a story about taking the seat out so he could transport a spare set of alloys if he bought any but I know which version I'd believe.

PS - Oh and the draft lager in the beer tent was Carlsberg, more of a cooking lager than my normal choices but it made a nice refreshing lunch considering the fantastic weather we had.

A top day, metting some great fellow porsche enthusiasts and cars.
Grant sorry I didn't get to meet you. That was me in the M plate 993....I saw the headlights flash from a silver 996TT as i left the event.Just before this I had swerved a little as the shock of my Roadangel flying across the dash had shocked me,I assumed the flash was a watch what you are doing you clown type of flash! Still hope to me up at another event.
Daz,glad you mentioned the 959,,,I was a little concerned with the number of Cayennes you checked out, particularly when they were parked next to bright yellow Ruf's.Hopefully your Hoon back home cured you of this.
Anyhow Daz,I have to take the seat out to compensate for the heavy A/C fitted otherwise Domster would have got upset.
We looked out for "Sad Git" but including myself there seemed to be quite a few around.
The automotive highlight for me was catching up with Paul Howells, the 993RS secretary,a very knowledgable, enthusiastic guy who was generous to our ears by demonstrating the 400bhp,9M,Motronic equiped engine in his car...Amazing,as it was not fully warm he did not go near the 8000rpm redline!
SFV great to meet you Sir,fantastic 968CS made me question why I no longer have one,I look hearing about your next trip to the ring.
Domster I have sent you mail ref Tyres.

What a great day out! Even the missus enjoyed it (well, the champagne, fun fair and go-karts at least...)
Highlight was talking to a bloke in the car park with an original 1980's RUF 911 Turbo who was good enough to "throb" the engine for the small fan club that devloped around it...It looked (sounded and smelt) stunning in Silver with orange/yellow detail and leather everything - he even had a matching coloured binder of pictures detailing the build...nice.
Can't wait till next year...

Clubsport..flying road angels that's spooky, at least we nearly met ! All these little "helpers" we all employ to try & spot the *##!!* camera's. That's the only way I knew that I had seen Daz's car by the range of electrinic gizmo's in the centre dash console!!
Spent yesterday fitting the new lights (!!) why is DIY never straight forward !!
Whilst at Eynsham I also got one of those "flexi-blades" designed to take water off your car, as with all these things only partially successful & SOUNDS LIKE NAILS DOWN A BLACKBOARD as you wipe it down the bodywork. Ho Hum.

I was there on Sunday and even wore a Pistonheads t-shirt. Didnt see a single Pistonheader. or Porsche, for that matter. Still, Evesham hall in Suffolk is a beautiful place

Okay, so everyone on this thread thought that the event was bloody wonderful. Whilst it was good, it wasn't that good! Perhaps I OD'd a bit on it as I was there for the full 2 days and we (myself and porkgirl) stayed overnight at the hall.
They could have done so much more with the event! I realise that the event is as much social as it is about Porsches but I enjoy driving the cars as much as looking at them. Why not hold it at a circuit, combine it with a track day, say?
To drive the car I had to go out on the run to PCGBHQ, which in itself was disapointing (did anyone else do it on their designated route and nearly hit that bridge?)
Make the car sales section bigger (there were several cars for sale in the car park which I'm sure people didn't see). Added features like a finance and inspection stands, so if you were interested on the day, you could buy (I was considering).
More things to do as well. Apart from the displays and the shops (also note the auto jumble didn't go ahead on the Sunday), there was very little in the way car / driving related particable activities, apart from the auto test.
Come on guys you can do better.
On a lighter note, I know its each to their own, but thoes concourse guys are anal!

I realise what your saying Melv, I agree most members will have really enjoyed the event, as I said in my origional post for many this is a great social event more than anything else. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the days, and I'm certainly not knocking the organisers (I know how hard organising an event of this size is). I can sense that you offended.
I'm looking at it from a Porsche virgin / member of the public who had never been to one of these events before. There was just so much more that could have been done. Porsches, afterall, are a dynamic product. Just displaying them doesn't do them justice.
Thank you for the invitation to help with organisation next year, apart from the time issues, I am lead to beleive from some of the members I chatted to that there is too much in the way of politics involved. I'm not interested in that. There are always two ways to do things! I don't like taking the pointless difficult route.

It is a shame the autojumble didn't go ahead, as they are good fun, even if you don't need bits for your car.
For me, it was a great social event, hardly had time for anything else. Looked over a few cars - Mr Howell's lovely red 993RS comes to mind
- and had a good wander. It was a good one day event, but two days may have bee stretching it too thin. Like hsv, I'd like to have seen a bit of driving - maybe Iguana's 944 donut challenge, or a Badgertastic tarmac rally course around the hall

Agreed. I thought the Cayenne challenge would have been a driving experience and the other half would certainly have had his arm twisted into buying a car if all the cars for sale had been lumped into one area.
However, that said, the weather was good, the champers was flowing and we met some really lovely people.
Game on for the next big meet.
I went on Sunday for about 4 hours, I felt that this was about enough time to spend there. There was lots of interesting stuff on display, but the 911 40th anniversary display was not as good as I had hoped.
I would have thought that with all of the PCGB connections and personal contacts with Porsche AG, there might have been something really special on display just for the occasion!
Of all the PCGB national events that I have attended over the last several years, the location was as good as ever, if not a little more spacious than usual. Nice old house, nice lawns and a general air of wealth in the surroundings. But it seems as though the thing is now following a similar format year upon year. I feel as though I should join the National Trust!
Having said that, the one that sticks in my mind was the first one that I attended, down at Thruxton about 6-7 years ago,I remember that staging the event at a circuit gave the whole thing more meaning.
Noise and movement adds so much more to the event, the more recent ones seem to be so static! Lots of shiny cars neatly parked, but a little more real "Porsche activity" required, possibly along the Goodwood FoS lines?
A lot of the interest (for me) was generated in watching the cars arrive and depart the car parks!
