Wot ee sed ^^^^

Labour is about 40 hours - no-one worth having will be doing it for a grand!! There are lots of good people who can do a proper job but do try www.uniteleven.co.uk - their work is as good as anyone's but generally very keenly priced in comparison (labour is £45/hr but they're very efficient too so get a lot done in any given time).

If you have a look at JZ Machtech, they quote 5,077.95p (incl VAT) for a top end overahul.

You guys are way off!
There is always extra stuff to do.
One friend of mine spent £13K at JZM 2 years ago, and that included gearbox rebuild.
Another recently spent 8K from a small inde, but included new turbo and clutch.
Budget at least £6K.
btw, do you own one already or have a car in mind?

I reckon 4K is about right for a top end, providing there's nothing major needing replacing, e.g. a head or a cam. The best guide price would be for a 930 turbo as it's basically the same engine. Whoever managed to spend 13K must have had some fairly major work done. I've just spent 10K on a full rebuild for a 964RS and that included new barrels and pistons (2.5K for these parts alone), new clutch and flywheel, new uprated valve springs and titanium retainers, ARP rod bolts, a replacement (used) head etc.

Cost me over £6k few years ago so you can add a lot more for increased prices on parts and labour.

The only thing i regret not doing while my rebuild took plcae was to get ARP Headstuds, this was two fold me not doing enough background and not been made aware of it at the time.I know that they're not essential but increasing my power they would of helped (UV might have some input at this point).

3K if nothing major needs doing. But once you're in their it could get expensive. Whilst the engines out you may as well stick a new clutch in it and so on. 10K for a total rebuild sounds about right.

a professional mechanic who specializes and is experienced in the marque should be able to rebuild a top end in 40 hrs @ say £80/hr that's £3200 + £600 parts that's under 4k if not then WTF is he doing? apart from mugging you Maybe the £80/hr is out (but not by much) an OPC hourly rates about £110/hr I'm sure they'll be able to convince you you'll need other parts to get the bill up there but that's me being sceptical of all mechanics especially indies (although not unique to them I'm sure) believe me I have the experince

So now were up to 4k+

I ask again what at what respected specialist can you get a top end rebuild for 3k? or even below 4k?

We're currently at a (heavily) discounted £55 p/h for engine work......
