In case there was ever any doubt, I've just discovered what Porsche drivers do of a Wednesday lunchtime. My Boxster and I have just come back from stretching our legs down the A3 after a week of working from home, and we encountered no less than 8 other Porsches (various) doing what appeared to be exactly the same thing. Lovely day for it.

Excellent work all round!! clap

I stretched mine out on Sunday afternoon around a quiet local industrial estate. A good stretch reminds you why you bought it in the first place!

MFU, sorry to go off topic but I believe you are a guitar dealer that specialises in vintage models. Mine is'nt vintage but just wondered what in your opinion it is worth and also any intersting info about it;

Fender Stratocaster 1984 or 1985 model had since new in cream with rosewood fretboard SERIAL E540753

EDIT: By the way it is an original contour body with the larger head.

Hi Molly, if it's a USA one it Books at around £400 in exc condition, but the Book is all over the place at the moment. Ebay is the best guide and guitars sell well on there. Check out this neat Strat link. Ebay Germany is also good as they are keen buyers and the Euro is strong. Good luck.

Same here. Free lancer working from an office at home.

The option of taking a break and hooning the 993 during the day are a perk of the job. Thrapping past Mr rep in his suit and three series touring is another perk.

Thanks MFU for your post. It always foxes people this one. The only other one I have seen was a white one many years ago in Andy's Guitar Shop in London for £1500 so it won't have gone down that much in value. It was a Limited Edition to try to rival Gibson who were selling more than Fender at the time apparently? But that's about all I know.

You're welcome. Yes, it wouldn't have gone down that much really.

Any age '57 Goldtop books at around £1500. The 'non-vintage guitar market is always quite strong, even in bad times, so don't give anything away. There are literally 1000's of player/collectors out there - and millions in Europe.

Continuing with guitars - I've been after a re-issue 59 LP Standard - Tobacco Sunburst.

I'm in Dubai and a pal who has an events company was goign to be ording a few guitars in from the US and was going to piggy back on the order to help with shipping and discount. He's not sorting it out so I may as well do it myself.

Anything you can help with?

Sorry Asterix - If you wanted an original, no problem. I only do the vintage stuff.

E-bay really is the best bet - here's an instant link to the top 100 guitars in the US. You'll find the majority of US dealers good people and you won't get ripped off. Just search around.

Talking of guitars, I have quite an unusual one - a Les Paul Artist Custom (prototype #10), signed by Les Paul himself and with a letter about its construction from the Gibson guy that designed and built it originally (Charles Burge). Late 70's period, so not especially valuable hence I could buy it in the first place and hope to keep a long time.

MFU, good luck with your business.

If you've got an Enzo, it won't be worth more than your car, and we can have a deal!

I can get one with a very light flame on it for £185,000. The 'bursts with the big flame tops are £250,000+.

Lots go to Japanese and European Businessmen, rather than musicians which is a great shame.

I sold a really nice one in 1972 for £8,000 banghead

I know - silly really.

But no different than vintage Ferraris being stuck in air conditioned garages and never driven.

It was all down to the way the wood was aged and dried at the time - Gibson had a stock of perfect wood that matured perfectly and the tweaks with the design of the neck/frets made it the perfect guitar - or so I'm led to believe.

I'm a huge LP fan - had a few stunning examples (was in a signed band a long time back) that were bought for me by the record company - during a skint period they all went frown

A good friend of mine (who produced a number of our tracks) had a half share in a vintage guitar shop in Fulham and used to rock up to our pre-production rehersals with some outrageous guitars for me to play with - ended up with one.

Anyway - was a long time ago but I'd still love to get hold of a reissue.

Will keep hunting for a deal.

Absolutely right, not forgetting the PAF's! The whole car/guitar collector thing is a strange mentatlity.
Guitars are to be played, cars to be driven.

A colleague sold 3 Les Paul Standards in one go (total £600,000) last year to a German banker, who collected them without even opening the cases. He wasn't a new customer, obviously.

...never to be played again frown

Hot tip: 1970's Deluxes will prove to be a very good investment! And SG juniors.

Asterix - email me exactly what you're after/budget etc and I can ask a friend in the UK who may be able to help.

cheers, Kim
