Hi

I have a CDR 22 stereo in my W reg Boxster. It's stopped working. The display glows faintly, but nothing shows on the display ie no words. When I remove the front, I can see lights on in the back of the unit. The lights remain on even when I turn off the ignition, lock the car and leave it.

Is there any way to 'reset' the stereo? If not, where's the best place to get it fixed? A main Porsche dealer?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Adam,
welcome to the Porsche Forum.

It sounds like a faulty front plate.
If you've dropped or stressed the front plate that would be it.
You'll need to borrow one to test the stereo.
It doesn't sound like a reset issue. The cdr22's were "old" [but easier to upgrade] technology. The later units were most bus optical units, and more complicated, especially to upgrade. The cdr23's had reset software, but not cdr22's I believe.

Go to someone who fits Becker. Porsche will only want to sell you a new unit, at massive prices to boot. Aquaint yourself with real Becker prices before Porsche quote you unhappy.

Look on the bright side. If it is totally mullered, upgrade to a New Becker with i pod input, which will suit your Boxster.

Bit of a long shot given the date of the original posts, but I have the exact same problem.

If the OP reads this, what was the upshot....!? Thanks.

That's nearly ten years ago now.
I sounded good then, didn't I.
I seem to have forgotten all that now.
