Selling a car into Germany

I have thoroughly enjoyed owning a GT3, but have found little opportunity to use it over the last year and don't think this year will be any different.
It's originally a German car, and considering our economies and the exchange rate I'm minded to advertise it for sale to a German audience.
So...
- is mobile.de still the best bet for an advert?
- are there any issues that would hinder a buyer importing the car - does it help that I've kept the original clipped Fahrseugbrief?
- any advice on the transaction, and how to ensure receipt of cleared funds?

I am based in Germany - it will certainly help that you have kept the original Fahrzeugbrief, not only regarding the punters, but also deregistering. Other than that I'd deal with them as with any UK punter. On a side note there's less "professional" scammers in Germany (my personal experience anyway). Mobile.de and Autoscout24 is a very good start I reckon - I happily volunteer to translate your ad for you if you wish!

Been discussed at length here recently. Suggest you search for "mobile.de" or similar, but I and a lot of others have done it recently and it is generally painless. Good luck!
Be interesting to see if the outflux of the more desirable LHD cars (3TT,GT,RS etc) back to the continent has any effect on RHD prices. May well help strengthen them for these models

To the OP - and anyone else planning to sell a car into the Eurozone - I suggest you do it now. Two factors are working against any delay.
1. Sharply weakening sentiment in Germany (which is where I'd expect the bulk of your market) will reduce your market opportunities;
2. A weakening euro will mean the bargain they might have priced two-three weeks ago is now about 8% more costly before transaction costs, further reducing your market opportunities.
May I suggest that you factor in a pound to euro exchange rate of circa £1 = €1.25 for the next month or so, and plan your price accordingly. If you get better rates (i.e. a euro lower than 1.25, then you're quids in as long as you make the transaction and convert the euros quickly).

I am looking to get moving, as I tend to agree with your assessments. I just need to get the car detailed and a new splitter fitted (the usual problem with the clips...)
Whether it'll be worth repatriating any money made on the sale is an interesting thought...

I had a 993 RS M003 - a fabulous car, and one you'll really enjoy if you can find a good example. They aren't particularly easy to keep or run, though! And with the comparatively short wheelbase, they aren't nearly as easy to drive as the GT3 either...

993RS M003 Clubsport N-GT FiA no less and you sold it!!
Still, some great memories and pleased I owned it. With no heating and no ventilation to speak of, I don't think I've ever been so cold or so hot in a car. Nor so wide-eyed (unintentionally sliding, leaving grey lines up the road, out of Pouhon) or elated (as before).
I understand Thomas from H&S later ran it personally, so I guess it was a good 'un.
Do you know where it is now?

The car went in for an inspection and a new splitter yesterday.
And it's going back in tomorrow for a new rad...
Which leaves Friday to finish detailing it, and the weekend for photographs and to place the advert.
At least the euro hasn't collapsed...

Well, it's been a little while, but I thought I ought let you know that the car sold, yesterday, to the first guy that saw it. It surprised me slightly to get serious enquiries from Finland, Germany, France and Italy - mobile.de obviously has an impressive catchment. The Finn bought the car, and I'm confident that I could have sold it to the German if we hadn't been able to agree a price close to asking.Sad, of course, to see a truly sensational car go, but also pretty pleased to be sitting on euros on the day that Merv says he's in the market for a load of green ink.
