Service gonna cost me £2,500 near enough !!!

...admittedly, that's a 72k service PLUS new brake discs and pads front & back, new front CV joint and worn rear anti-roll bar links. Still hurts though!!
Lucky it didn't need new tyres! Actually I must drive like a wuss, coz these tyres (front & back) have been running for the last 20k miles!
Definitely not selling the bugger now!!

Flippin' eck! whats the labour rate?
I assume you are out or warranty by now? worth investigtating a few specialists. Specialists can be under half the labour rate of an OPC.
I have seen dealer labour rates of as high as £100 pr hr (this was a Merc dealer admididly) but I'll im sure your OPC wont be sub £60 per hr & most likey nearer £80 per hr. Reputable specialists can be as low as £30 per hr & up to £50ish
Edited to add- even if you want to keep the OPC fsh its worth trying speciaists for the other bits. Lost of people who want to keep the service history OPC do things this way.

...yep - it's out of warranty now. I think the labour rate is £60/hr as it's reduced for cars >4years old. Next time will get the non-routine stuff done by JZ Machtech, methinks (my nearest independent). Trouble is, I'm not sure how much experience they have on 996's.
Spend the cost of a winter break in Mauritius on routine stuff for a Porker !
Reckon an independent might have saved you a grand. Those OPC's have to pay for the steel and glass showrooms somehow..
And its ironic that if you wanted to sell them your car they would'nt be interested in putting it in their showroom cos of the mileage. Happy to rob you for a service though..
Long live the independents and their noble fight against the imperial empire !

I used to run a 3.2 carrera - I'd get the OPC to do the annual service and stamp the book and tell me what jobs needed doing. I even had the brass neck to buy Mobil 1`myself from Halfords to avoid paying the 50% mark up on what the OPC would charge me for supplying the same. I'd buy original OEM parts from either Euro car parts or one of the many reputable Porsche supplier who advertise in the Porsche rags. I'd either do the jobs that needed doing myself or get my local garage to do it at $25/hour. IMHO replacing the discs on a Porsche is no more involved than replacing them on a Fiesta.

...I think that's what I'll do in future - use the OPC for routine servicing/diagnostics and then get JZ to do the expensive stuff. Should have done that this time! Bugger!
