Was looking through the latest issue of Porsche / 911 world and saw a 993 T4 for around £42K with 70K miles on. Hopefully will be swapping the Chimaera in 12-18 months and was hankering after a Tuscan. Have always liked Porkers - car nerd and fanatic since childhood But since having the Chim with modded 5 litre in I would only consider a turbo Porker as an alternative to the Tuscan

To cut an already long story short, in 12-18 months said Turbo 4 would be into 2nd hand Tuscan money. Would 70K miles mean big bills on a T4? Are there many with that many miles on? Would be awesome to own a T4 as have loved them from their release - used to read reviews in Performance Car whilst still at School and consider the T4 to be the pinnacle of the air-cooled 911

Any advice greatly appreciated

If Deresrictor is going to bTap, would you mind if I looked round your motor please?

Sorry for long / convoluted post am feeling beer bad - not for long though, the Carlsberg Export is calling

It is difficult to say what bills you will get at 70k miles. Porsches are well built, well engineered cars. However, they are a high performance car that may have been driven hard, and 4WD turbo 911s are technically more complicated than their 2wd n/a brethren. In all honesty, at 70k miles I wouldn't worry unduly. Yes, bits will go, but you may be pleasantly surprised with the prices for running a Porsche. Service intervals every 12k miles, labour as low as 35 GBP per hour at independents, lots of factor parts from German and Swedish, plenty of dismantlers and breakers for more major bits, lots of enthusiasm for the marque and club support.

There may be a few 993tts with high miles. Certainly nothing extraordinary about them getting up to that mileage.

Derestrictor isn't coming to BTaP sadly.

Thanks for reply

Was looking in Top Marques just now during my coffee break, and saw a Turbo 4 with 71K on for a fiver short of £40K, so figure around £35K in twelve months?

Shame DeR not going to bTap

Looking forward to meeting you Porksters at bTap

The Turbo 4 depreciation curve has largely levelled off. It may not even go down much more than to 37-38k in that time.

Remember that any car with that performance will cost k's to run not 00's. Clutches are pricey, as are brake discs etc.

As long as you can budget 2-3 k a year, don't worry about running one and get on with enjoying it. If you are as poor as a church iguana, I would get a n/a 993 post 1995.

I don't keep a close eye on prices of 993 TT's so may be talking complete nonsense but I would not expect a 5-7 yr old Porsche to be doing much depreciation at all, certainly not 5k a year

Too right, I've been watching the prices of 993TT's carefully for 18 months+ as a potential next move and the damned things have barely dropped in value!!! I'll have to resort to working harder if I'm going to afford one!

Did not realise the prices are/have been so rock steady - Looks like I am going to have to resort to the pro-plus and increase working hours

Chris,

I agree they're probably not gonna lose £5K in the next year but they have dropped significantly in the last 18 months. I've seen 4 RHD cars for circa £40K in the last month. 18 months ago, that was LHD money. I definitely wouldnt pay more than £33-35K for LHD now.

They've levelled off I reckon - 993 C4S prices are on the way up for good 'uns (because of course unabused examples are becoming scarcer, as with the TT's)
