996 TT. In the boot space at the front there is a small reservoir behind the servo underneath the perforated black plastic trim that says 'mineral oil only'. As its not the servo and the top up for the power steering/clutch is in the back.....can anyone tell me what it is please?

Thanks guys. Thats the one. From your attachment stevo its the second supply tank. It seems to have weeped at the cap. The are no obvious breaks or cracks and the the cap would appear to be correctly fitted, albeit a little tight. Fearing initially its was brake fluid i cleaned it briefly but there is no paintwork damage and it must have been like that for at least a week since i last used the car. I have taken a small amount out of the resevoir.

get it seen to or keep an eye on it..???

Just keep an eye on it... it's fine up front... if it was at the back I would tell you not to drive the car.

as said keep your eye on it as if it keeps leaking it usually a sign that the hydraulic unit on top of the gearbox is going faulty and back feeding fluid to the front resevoir

£13 a litre from Halfords. If your car is spewing it out consider bottling it!!!

As Porscheuro said, watch the levels in front and back; the slave cylinder can fail internally and transfer fluid from front to back or vice versa, leaving the front reservoir either empty or overfull and leaking.

The tank up front (under the perforated cover) was leaking on my car (996tt). The clutch was a little heavy too.
The garage diagnosed a failed clutch slave cylinder, replaced under warranty.

As previously posted: Keep checking the fluid level, if it continues to leak then the clutch slave cylinder is faulty and will require replacing.

It makes a mess of the luggage area though which will require thorough cleaning.

It's not a unusual problem, but not common either. 993TT have a similar system. Replace the cylinder assembly, accumulator and hose at the same time.

I've just had my 997 turbo mot'd and the tester noted fluid on the under-tray. After some investigations we traced it back to the reservoir in the front under the plastic. After loads of research it looks like clutch slave which appears to be a common problem?

However, apart from the fluidleak I have zero symptoms of the common problems associated, like hard clutch pedal when cold or before starting car. No problems engaging gears, and I also pumped the clutch after letting the car idle for 20 seconds, and the clutch only went hard after 20-25 pumps. I sometimes leave the car for 2 weeks without driving and always have a nice light clutch. Therefore the accumulator seems to be doing the job.

Do you think this could still be the slave? Also, does Pentosin damage what it comes into contact with?

It would be clutch master, not slave, that may be leaking at the front, the slave is fitted to the gearbox.

Pentosin is apparently very harmful to rubber hoses, of the coolant sort at least, that's what the manual says.

Is there a leak because the reservoir is overflowing? Or is the actual clutch master cylinder leaking?

On the 996, the clutch and PAS share the same system.

The leak is from the clutch reservoir next to battery. It has overflowed, but when cold the level sits a tiny bit below max. I haven't seen what it does when hot, but I guess the slave could be diverting fluid back to clutch reservoir? I don't think it's the master. Possibly just overfilled, but unlikely as this isn't a service item and fluid is allegedly a life long one. Car always services by Porsche and it isn't on any service schedule.

Planning to do a long journey to tomorrow for a wedding, so not sure what to do. I have no symptoms apart from the leak.
