Porsches take to the track at Silverstone on Saturday

A fabulous diversity of racing Porsches will line up for Bill Taylor Memorial race at Silverstone on Saturday. Organised by the Porsche Club GB, the annual end-of-season race will be held in its traditional one-hour, two-driver format on the Silverstone national circuit.

Not only does the race provide some great competition, it also raises money for the fund set up to remember one of the country's most popular Porsche racers. Taylor continued to race right up until the final stages of his brave fight against cancer. In his memory, his famous Carrera RS will carry number 1 and be driven by his sons Gary and Simon in the Silverstone race.

Topping the entry is the wonderful 996GT2-R of Rupert Lewin, one of the stars of this season's Michelin Porsche Open Series. The mighty 996 should excel on the Silverstone National circuit and will surely set the overall race pace. Despite his relative lack of racing experience, Rupert has developed tremendously as a racer this season and, equipped with a suitable co-driver, will surely be a contender for overall victory.

Amongst those leading the chase of Lewin will be 17-year old Jonathon Cocker in his Red Line Racing 911 GT3 Cup car. Jonathon has been a star of the Carrera Cup GB this season and has also contested a couple of late-season Porsche Open races. Cocker will be partnered by fellow Carrera Cup racer Jason Young in a strong entry from Red Line Racing.

Meanwhile, Aaron Scott, fresh from a season of British GT racing, will partner Paul Hogan in the Tech 9-entered 996 Turbo that Hogan has raced in the Porsche Open series this season. Stuart Scott and Steve Wood also step back from their British GT campaign to share Stuart's familiar 944, while FIA GT Championship regular Mark Sumpter is set to partner racing newcomer David Fissenden in his 911E.

Family pairings are a regular part of the Bill Taylor entry, and father and son combo Mike and Steve Burtt team up in a 993RS. Other family crews are Clive and Paul Griffiths (Carrera) and Paul and Graham Howells (993 Supercup).

Don`t be fooled into thinking we can`t drive if you look at our position and times. We are contractually obliged to drive slowly so the sponor`s logos are legible. Jammie dodgers and wagon wheels on the day for anyone heard cheering us on !!

Seriously, totally fun day, some lovely Porsche machinary to look at, you can wander round the pit area. A fun way to spend Saturday.

Small world -bumped into one of Charles Ivey's mechanics in a caff in Fulham yesterday who was driving a 944 in the Bill Taylor race. Sounded a hoot.

Actually I sort of did the race last year. Blinding qualifying, couldn`t find any gears when the lights changed, got overtaken by all the cars, two laps overtaking cars left right and centre then retired when said gearbox refused to allow 3rd and 4th gears out to play.

Very pleased with this year`s result. Only the 3rd time out in the GT3, starting to relax a bit more in it.

Shame on you Melvin. It was actually my driving partner Chris who nosed the car into the beach at Brooklands on the Friday`s practice session!

With Mr Firman at the helm the car cruised the circuit with the regularity of a quality swiss timepiece !!
