I was just wondering how many of us use our Porsche every day/

If you do, whats your car and how many miles a year do you cover?

As ever there is a hidden agenda - I have to replace my commuter car and wonder if its viable to use a 944 every day for my commute. That way I can run two cars instead of three...there must be some sound logic in there somwehere..!

I share the mileage between my 944 and 309 diesel. Often commute in the Porsche, specially on a friday Currently on 4k mile limited classic insurance, which will need extending.

no reason you cant use a 944 every day. Well, I hope not anyway cos mine is my only car at the moment
They can obviously take the mileage. Mine is fine sitting in traffic. Petrol consumption is a bit heavy if you're doing a lot of miles (mine is a turbo and only does about 20mpg most of the time).
Having said the above, I only do about 10k miles per year anyway.

I bought a 20 year old 944 lux 3 weeks ago to do the winter commute in and so far it seems ideally suited to the job.

I've used my 944's every day for the past 6 years and over 70 thousand miles with no major problems. A sudden drastic cut in my income this year means the daily commute is now done in a Metro and my Turbo has become a trackday toy and weekend pleasure car, but the car itself is capable of handling anything you throw at it

I used a 924S for 90mile daily round trip for 3-4 years, with no problems. I now do a similar millage with a 944s2 and have no issues,these cars are designed to be driven and not using them regularly is a waste. Both mine have millage well in excess of 150k
and will not be spared just because of rain or snow.

This is all very encouraging

My commute is 110 miles, but from the replies here, particularly yours Peter, it sounds like thats not really an issue

Looks like I might be upgrading to an S2 rather than replacing the third car again

All I can say the more I use them the better they become, stay on top of them, change the oil regularly. Thrash them every now and again, and really enjoy them.
944s are cheap (ish) and make fine everyday cars. I can't see me changing from them for a very long time.

Well, I'm going to be getting a 944 in the spring for use as a daily car (replacing the 1966 MGB!). I certainly don't see any issues with it as long as you keep on top of the routine stuff.

I have done about 25k in my 944 so far this year

I used my 944S as a daily driver for 3 years and about 36k miles, and it only let me down once with a burst coolant hose. As I now use a TVR Tuscan for my daily commute, the 20 mpg I got from the Porsche seemed quite good.

That wouldnt be the lower rad hose would it, I have done 2 in a year (first one because the Power Steering pump spindle moved forward and cut through it and second time cause I had overtightened the clips when fitting the new one.

Certainly was and about 2 weeks after a 12k service. Typical.

I ran my S2 for 18 months every day (c20k miles) without any problems. The only thing I remember was it never really liked crawling in traffic.

After about 10 mins of stop/start 1st gear crawling (with lots of clutch action) it always started juddering when trying to pull away. After about 5 mins of normal driving it was fine.

I've been in a couple of '44's which did the same. I always assumed they all did it...

Mine did the same when the clutch got hot. I've heard quite a few people with the rubber centre clutches have the same problem.

Use it and LOVE it everyday!

Collect July, now has 12,000 miles on it.

Not bad considering I live / work in London during the week - it just get's abused at weekends!
