Got my car into a shop to do an oil change and we are a bit stuck here.

What we try to do is unscrew central bolt from the oil filter, but oil dips painfully slowly (like 100ml in 10 minutes). We are not sure if there is a dedicated oil change valve.

Need help ASAP, as i am actually in the service right now!

Another question - how many liters do we need to fill?

Any help appreciated.

I would call PCGB in the morning and ask to speak to John Manning. He is the Oracle of CGT.

Have you taken the oil cap off the dry sump filler neck?

On a lot of race engines the oil is removed by sucking the oil out of the dry sump tank via a pump as there is very little oil in the sump.

Other way is to drop the sump!

Or the filter.

HTH!

Also at this time of night you might be better off calling up an OPC in the states.

Droped the filter, drop five bolts from the engine and managed to get around 3-4 liters... Hmmm...

Yep, thats in Moscow. OPC were being snobbish so i went independent.

Brain is going now too...
Does the dry sump have a catch tank?
If so you cant overfill it.
The excess will spit out into the tank.

Dont I would consider cranking the engine without spark first to make sure you have enough in.
In the past when I have been working on DS engines I have put enough oil in so that it just starts to spit out when cranked into the catch tank. Then fire the engine and add another 1/2 litre and make sure that gets spat out and then I am happy.

Just make sure you dont put too much in that it fills the catch tank before you can empty it - makes a mess!

This is also where an oil pump comes in handy!

Dunno if that helps!!

Where is the DS tank?

Can you shine a light in there to see if its empty?

An engine that size I would expect the dry sump tank to be 10L or more...

Thanks for help guys. No idea where to get 8 more liters from... Impossible to suck it out, the hole is too tight. Changed the filter, topped up 3 more liters and went home. Too late, 1 in the morning here) The guys will find out how to do everything and then will change the oil properly.

03 Changing engine oil and oil filter
– Caution
– Drain engine oil
– Replacing oil filter
– Filling in engine oil

CAUTION

Danger of engine or catalytic converter damage if oil level is incorrect!
Check oil level regularly (if possible whenever refuelling )!
Oil level must not fall below the minimum mark or rise above the maximum mark!
Only use engine oils approved by Porsche AG!
CAUTION

Danger of scalding with hot engine oil!
Whenever possible only work on the engine when it has cooled down!
Wear suitable protective clothing!
Ensure everything is clean when working on the engine!
Note
Mobil 1 engine oil to specification 0W40 is filled in at the factory.
The oil quantity on first filling is 14.5 litres.

Drain engine oil
Note
The requirements for raising the vehicle on the lifting platform must be strictly observed to avoid damaging the underbody!
1. Raise the vehicle on a lifting platform at the take-up points provided → 4 Lifting the vehicle.

2. Secure the vehicle to two arms of the lifting platform with special tool wheel strap 9454 . To do this, screw the fastening eyelet -Item 2- hand-tight into the threaded bore of the take-up plate on the vehicle. Now tension each wheel strap -Item 1- at the respective lifting arm and secure.
3. Remove rear underbody cover → 51 94 19 Removing and installing rear underbody cover

4. Open cover cap on the oil filler pot (swirl pot ). To do this, pull up the locking flap and twist the cap anti-clockwise.

Note
So that the waste oil drains away cleanly between the oil drain hole and bottom part of the unit carrier, hold a small funnel so that none of the waste oil runs into the carrier. Cloths can also be placed on the bottom part of the unit carrier to catch any remaining oil.
Now clean the bottom part of the unit carrier in the region of the oil drain hole with a cloth soaked in solvent naphtha.

5. Drain engine oil. To do this, release the drain plug from the engine oil tank on the transmission (in direction of travel on the left side) and unscrew -arrow- . Collect engine oil in a suitable oil container. Then fit the plug with a new sealing ring, screw in again and tighten to the specified torque.

Tightening torque for oil drain plug M22 is 35 Nm (26 ftlb.)
Note
Replace the seal on the engine oil strainer cover.
Check the engine oil strainer for damage, replace if necessary.

6. Remove engine oil strainer and clean. Unscrew the three M6 fastening screws -Item 1- for the cover of the engine oil strainer on the transmission (in direction of travel on the left side). Remove cover together with seal and take out the metal strainer. Collect the escaping engine oil.

7. Wash out metal strainer -arrow- with solvent naphtha, check for damage and replace if necessary. Carefully clean sealing surfaces on cover and transmission. Insert cover with a new seal and tighten fastening nuts to the specified torque.

Tightening torque for M6 fastening nut 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Replacing oil filter

1. Drain oil from the oil filter. Release drain plug M12 x 1.5 (hexagon socket a/f 6) from the cover -Item 1- and unscrew. Collect draining oil in a suitable oil container. Place a cloth on the side of the bottom part of the unit carrier to catch splashes and drips of waste oil. Remove traces of oil with a cloth soaked in solvent naphtha.

2. Unscrew four M6 fastening screws from the cover (see -Item 2 in above figure above- ) and remove oil filter cover together with paper filter downwards. Let remaining oil drain out, clean sealing surfaces on cover and crankcase and fit the cover with a new O-ring and new paper filter. Tighten fastening nuts to the specified torque

Tightening torque for M6 hexagon-head bolts 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
3. Clean drain plug on oil filter cover and together with a new copper sealing ring tighten to the specified torque.

M12 tightening torque 25 Nm (19 ftlb.).

Filling in engine oil
Filling capacities:
Engine oil change without oil filter: 10.0 litres
Engine oil change with oil filter: 10.5 litres
1. Slowly fill in the specified quantity of engine oil at the filler pot (swirl pot ) of the engine oil tank using a suitable funnel or oil filling container.

2. Insert and engage cover cap. If the lugs of the cover cap and upper parts do not align -arrow- , both parts can be twisted against each other until the cover fits into the recess of the filler pot. Close locking flap.

3. Start engine and switch off after it reaches working temperature (min. 70 °C). After a dripping time of approx. 1 minute the oil level can be checked with special tool engine oil dipstick 9455 . The oil level should be at the 10-litre mark, otherwise correct it.
4. Re-insert engine oil cover cap and lock it.
5. Before fitting the underbody cover, re-check all cover caps and screws of the oil circuit for leaks.
6. Install rear underbody cover → 51 94 19 Removing and installing rear underbody cover
