DMS Re-Map for 997 Turbo

[Need For Speed]

I've tried to do a search on the subject, but as usual, the search facility is under maintenance!

I'm considering having the stage 1 DMS re-map done to my 997 Turbo, it gives another 75BHP and 100-120lb/ft of torque. Has anyone else had it done, and if so, did the car still retain it's reliability etc?

Speak to John at Specialist Cars of Malton think there 996 was done by DMS.

Good product if you just want to just chip your car, There are better routes if you think u will want more power in the future tho ! IMO

Re Fearn, I have read on PH good and, not so good things about them. The thread about work being done uncompetently on one members car has put the kybosh on me using them .

I had my 996tt done by them a while back..we had a problem at the start of the upgrade with a misfire at higher revs..they informed me after looking at the 'laptop' that there was nothing wrong with the upgrade and there must be a fault with the car(that wasnt there before).After 2 hours of discussions and head scratching we drew the conclusion that it was the MAF sensor, which we changed ..Hey Presto absolutely perfect after that..The car was transformed from a fairly quick car that was easy to drive fast everywhere to a car that needed a bit of respect coz it was so much quicker,a more manic power delivery and now really good fun.Even my mate with a Gt2 was shocked.In fact the engine ran sweeter than before in general with no subsequent problems..The DMS guys are very helpful and certainly know their stuff..i know guys who have had BMW/Audi diesls done by them too with top results.Go for it.

I have had contact with DMS and they have told me that they "come to you" to do the upgrade. Can this be done competently just by plugging in the laptop and, I presume, taking the car for a drive, or is there more to it than I can imagine?

No thats exactly what they do..takes a couple of hours with them taking a few bits and bobs off to access the Ecu.

Thanks KayC - Out of interest, where are the ECU's on a 996? I presume the 997's are in the same area.

Rob at DMS is a top guy...very experienced and well regarded and I am sure do a great job on your car

Not had any Porsche done, but had a BMW 535D done with them, and the results where noticeably better.

They are probably at the top of the list when it comes to re-mapping and developing programmes for this sort of thing.

If you read around you'll find negative experiences at practically every tuning shop - The Fearns issue was done to death, if its put you off thats fine, but they tuned my car did a great job, and I'll happily use them again.

Not sure to be fair i left the car with an 'expert' friend of mine as i wanted someone to watch the installation while i was at work.Id imagine they are similarly placed..

I think there is a bit of difference between having a re-map and convering a tiptronic turbo to manual with two wheel drive as was the case of the guy who had problems with them.

I think also a valuable lesson for the guys at fearn to stick to what they know and not bite off more than you can chew. sometimes it is better to tell a customer they are insane to do what they propose and wish them goodbye and good luck.

I like the guys there and I think they are good at the what they do, I hope that one mistake will not cost them too dear.

How mad a change is that!. Rear wheel conversion is one thing but converting a tip to manual? I mean... Why? The values of the cars arent that different. Might even get a swap or swap plus cash deal. Utterly mad conversion when about half the turbos are already manual.

great to deal with and after sales when I had a small issue was just STUNNING!!!
