Sold my TVR and picked up my brand new 996 C2 six weeks ago. Nothing but trouble free motoring from now on I thought, following all the aggro of the Cerbera.

What happens - this week hit a pheasant at 60, cracks the front bumper! Cost - about £1k. Insurance excess £700!

Why me?

Our friend Brian at Jasmine Motorsport has 996 front PU`s on sale at £260 plus VAT.

www.jasmine-motorsport.co.uk

I can`t imagine it would cost much more than the same amount to get it properly painted and fitted.

Thanks for that. I'm waiting for the OPC recommended repairer's quote and will then do some shopping around.

I really do think you can get the whole thing done for less than your £700 XS...i had a front PU sprayed on a 996 for £300 for a perfectly matched job.

Nothing. In my experience the Cerbera would have broken down before it got anywhere near the pheasant.

GuyO there is always a more unlucky PH'er than you, unfortunatley it's me.

I bought a 944S2 after an exhaustive search and wrote it off in 7 weeks (my fault) then replaced it with a Lotus Elise again after an exhaustive search, that got dragged from my garage and set fire to after 4 weeks of ownership. I then bought a Rover 214 which I blew up on the M1 late one friday night after about 3 months of ownership(no loss the car was horrible).

I think I'd swap my luck with yours any day of the week. I would also swap my Saab 9-3 for your 996, any chance??

Bugger, I hope the pheasant is now sitting in the larder, for payback over Xmas ! I agree with other chaps, £1k seems rather excessive.

That would only happen if the pheasant happened to be on a straight road that was also well-lit, free of potholes and other minor imperfections and dry. (Except perhaps if the Cerbera driver was M Scumacher or someone who knows no fear!) Alternatively, maybe I just used to drive my Cerbera like a girl (no offence meant ladies).

Chaps
Been offline for a while, sorry. Can now update you -firstly, though, did like the comment about the Cerbera breaking down - mine was only off the road for over 5 months this year! That made me laugh - not.
Anyway, received the quote for the repair work - only £1,700!!!!!! I am definitely in the wrong job!
I will add that the damage is so slight that you have to get on your hands and knees to spot it. My OPC have had it on the ramp and confirms there is no other damage. Any ideas?

Now pay attention 007,,,did you not read the above???
if it is slight damage you may be able to flexi fill the thing....i did this on mine when some clown drove into the front of it,,if you go to a top place then only a total expert with a paint depth guage will be able to spot it has been painted,,,my repair was £300 cash.
Or if you want to replace the PU (front bumper) get one from jasmine for £300 notes, then get the above sparay job for £300 and you have spent £600, which is less than your excess..
To undercut your quote I will be happy to get it done for you for £1500,,,,basically I will get the above done and pocket the change
