Buying a Boxster
Discussion
I have an S1 Elise at the moment and am looking to buy one of my dream cars a Boxster...
However looking at saving some cash and getting a 2.5, or spending more on a 2.7 or S. What do you think? Plus most important is there much difference in servicing costs between them. Also how often are the intervals. I have had no responce from Porsche.
Many Thanks for your help, Happy new year

Cheers Daz, I would like the S, but is the cost of running it besides petrol much different as dont really want to risk not being able maintain it properly. IF its about the same then obviously worth the extra initial layout...
Appreciate the help, I now know alot about the old Lotus but v little about these things!

A Boxster S costs far less than an Elise to run...
I did about 15,000 miles in mine and sold it with about 22,000 miles on it. In that time I replaced both back tyres (18", still less than £300 for the pair), and a service at about £300. nothing else. The S will also average 24 to 29mpg fairly easily too, with 35mpg possible on a run.

Forget the Boxsters and buy a new Honda S2000 2004 model, much improved over previous years and still only £26k.
Legendary reliability, cheap servicing, good avg mpg , I got 28mpg on mine over 12000 miles. Did 3500 miles in 2 weeks through Europe 2 up camping, so storage is good. Real life sports car RWD handling, great residuals. Oh and it's faster than 2.5 or 2.7 and almost as quick as a 3.2S.
Sold mine in Oct--reason to buy a GT3

Simon - I was running around in an S1 Elise as my only car for a while and decided to try a Boxster for practicality. Any of them are superbly satisfying for comfort and quality after an Elise, but I found the 2.7 a bit too gutless. The S had not only noticeably more grunt, but the extra money provides several standard items such as six speed 'box and....I forget, but it did justify the additional cost! Both were unfeasibly smooth at 3 figure speeds after the Elise, but I then spotted a late 993 Targa in the corner of the OPC, drove it and bought it.
Cheers guys, went to look at an 'S' for the first time today and tho I didnt take it out anywhere :-( just sitting in it made my mind up. From the Elise which I love and will have another one day as a 2nd car, it has solid build quality and the looks. All that I need now is to sell the Elise and find the right Boxster S!!
