Can anyone help me uncover some history of my 993 race car? It was originally raced (with some success I believe) in the UK carrera cup in the 1990,s, then converted to road use. It has more recently been raced in the Porsche Open by British GT Driver Craig Wilkins. The registration number is L174HOX. I understand that Several drivers have competed in the car including Callum Locke. Does anyone have any knowledge of the car?

Steve i remember Craig getting the car,and Mr lead foot morris blowing the engine!
If its the same car as i am thinking of,it may well have been built for the Jones brothers by Gordon who was at gvr motorsport, and worked for mike Jordan for a long time.
Pete Morris may be able to help along with Craig.
I think henry had a similar car,or may be the car i am thinking of.

Nice prang! Dont think its mine unless the damage was lot lighter than it looked in the video as acid dipping hasnt picked up any major damage. On saying that some prangs that look huge turn out to be relatively light in terms of damage and vice versa. Jazzy B's 997 cup needed a re shell after he tapped the pit wall on the way out of the pits a few years ago. Thanks for the info though, I'll ask Mark if he knows anything..

I think at that time there were 2 cars running for the jone's brothers.

Did this car get sold by 911Virgin in the past?

That's my car!!!!!!!!!!! Have seen the footage before but not for years. The shunt was a major one and required the car to be reshelled.

Not really sure on whole history but was built by Eurotech for the jones brothers to race in the British GT's. Mark Sumpter also raced it at some point then good old Henry. I bought it from Henry about 6 years ago. It now sports gt2 kit and supercharger, currently at fearnsport getting sorted.

Would be very interested if anyone knows any more about it or have any photo's.

Proper GT2 BBS wheels now on it.

OK and apologies for a potentially long post.
First of all the footage on you tube was from memory in 1998. The yellow 993 belonged to the Jones twins and the red car belonged to Pete Chambers. The Jones brothers joined the Porsche Cup back in 1994 with a 968 club sport. (ex rally boys). For 1995 they came out with a beautifully prepared 928GTS. Bought brand new from a showroom and stripped into a race car.
I remember turning up for the first round of the championship at Silverstone in my freshly painted polar silver 3.2 Carrera Super Sport (yes the one I am building now will also be polar silver) on the Saturday for qualifying. The missus could not make it and wrang me to see how things where going. I said the Jones twins are here with a 928 GTS that makes my 911 look like a crappy old VW Beetle. Anyone that has driven a GTS will tell you there is a huge gap between the clutch and brake pedal. They machined a beautiful pedal box to overcome this problem out of titanium at a cost of £8000. Even the door handles where titanium. There was no testing at Zandvoort that year as the Jones's hired the circiut for the day before. They used more tyres on that GTS that weekend than the rest of us and I mean the entire grid put together. They totalled the car at Oulton Park, Druids to be precise. The rumour was that after taking a lot of kerb at knicker brook as we all did whichever twin forgot to pump brake pedal with left foot as pads tend to rattle back in the brake calipers. He hit the bank at 125mph (on his P.I. system) and actually pushed the whole grass bank back by ten feet. He ended up with brusies from the 6 point harness belts on his chest but that was it. A testament to the strength of these cars. Then they built the 993 as they refused to buy a second hand GTS as no new ones were available. The reason that they shared their car was that they are too competitive so racing against each other was a very bad idea.
The accident you watched at Combe was part of a horendous weekend. The Jones's and Pete had that big off with the Jones car ending up in the pit lane. Peter Cooke went off at the same spot in his F40, hit the bank and the car caught fire. Now this is very sad and I am 99% sure it was Martin Short that went off again at the same spot, a wheel came off his TVR Tuscan and killed one of his sponsers. After that race weekend the two chicanes where introduced for the following year in an attempt to reduce speeds. I believe local residents campaigned (arseh*les) for the circuit to be closed once and for all.
Anyway so not to tease Steve for too much longer. I guess when I went to Parr to look at your 996 supercup car your yellow 993 was also at Parr and I recognised it immediately. The interior is painted to BS 20 C 33 which is a light blue. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'll ramble on and I am sure we are talking about the same car. Your 993 was built by Protech based in Harpenden. From 97 to 03 I owned the company. It was commisioned by a chap called Paul Fuller who created Phoenix Motorsport and owned a company called SST / Voyager (computer data storage specialists) or something along that line (i'm not an IT expert). It was a one owner car (old boy) supplied by Arlingtons of Northampton. Originally white with mid grey interior, 28,000 miles on the clock (I still have the original steering wheel somewhere if you would like it, and I don't want any money for it). The cage was installed by Steve Monk who runs a company called Bodywerkes. His work is of the finest order and most of what he does now envolves the old 64,65 2.0 litre cars.
I was in the midst of building what JAZ named the animal. A narrow bodied 3.2 Carerra G50 car with a 3.3 Turbo engine in the back running 410bhp at 1 bar of boost. Ran 964 Carrera 2 PU's. The car was being painted BS 20 C 33 inside and Iris Blue Metallic on the outside. So Paul suggested that we make it the team colour. So your 993 was originally painted Iris Blue Metallic by specialist paintwork in Reading. Along with Marcus Fothergill's 944 S2, Piers maserati's 3.2 Carrera, Dave Bennett's 3.2 Carrera Super Sport (my old car), Diane Osbourne's 968 Club Sport and of course my turbo.
It was also the first race car to run Intrax Dampers in the UK. I have no idea if it still does. It did have a hard life with Paul. He usd to fall of quite regularly and some where heavy but Steve Monks ability insured that the repairs where 100% structurally sound and his ability is second to none. Although eventually he could not insure his race car. I wonder why.
I did the last race of the season in that car. Silvestone International. Pi**ing with rain. Handling was superb but was down on power. When I bought Protech I inherited a chap called [DELETED] a reknowned engine builder. Yes he used to be and in truth I am glad he now lives in the states, working for a main dealer and hopefully not costing them as much money as that c**t cost me. A) when he built the engine he never cc'd the heads i.e. compression as he thought 993 engines where 10 to 1 and B) he never spotted that the engine had been slightly buzzed for how long I do not know.
So the following year Paul and Marcus went to Pickup Motorsport to race a 996GT3R in British GT's. Mike Pickup's colours where yellow hence your 993 is of course yellow. From here on I have no idea about it's history but if you can get hold of Mike I am sure he'll fill you in. I did warn you it might be a long post and I hope not too many have fallen asleep. If I can be of any further help let me know as I can try and do a little digging. Still good friends with Piers Naserati so might be able to shed a little light.

The car in the accident at Combe was my old race car which Andy now has. Totally rebuilt by Eurotech into a new shell, the roll cage is a work of art with nascar type side impact protection strengtheners and a fancy multi-point rear cage arrangement.

I bought the car from Paul Livesy piccy of him racing it Here

Craig ran the car for a couple of meetings in Britcar and the Porsche Open. It was actually me at the wheel when the engine gave up the ghost going into Mcleans, no driver error I hasten to add, just a con-rod that wanted it`s 15 minutes in the limelight so popped out of the block to say hello.

Then it got sold to a chap who road registered it back again and did bits and bobs to it.

Then some ugly sod who makes shower trays bought it.

Anything else you need to know ?

Keep smiling Steve

Old dog, smashed to bits, never quite right afterwards and worthless.

I`ll give you £10k for it. Purely for sentimental reasons of course;)

Right.

Your car was raced by the Jones brothers up to the point it had a little tap at Castle Combe. After that it was basically re-built as a brand new car by Mike Jordan`s Eurotech outfit and features the Jones` usual high level of engineering finish (they own preci-spark, specialist aeronautical engineers).

By the time the car was repaired the Jones` new project a 996 race car was coming on line and so they only did a handful of races after it`s re-build. I`m not sure there wasn`t one race where they used both cars, possibly Spa.

After the Jones brothers sold the car it was bought by Mark at Paragon. I think he sold it to a chap via Parr who used it as a trackday toy, from memory he was involved in printing. I bought it through Parr and raced it in the Porsche Open series until the arrival of my 996 cup car and that`s when you bought it.

I don`t think the car was ever road registered when new. It was probably use as a race car from day 1 but I`m not sure. Mike Jordan would know if you ever bumped into him.

Hope that helps shed some light.

Henry

RHD 993 race cars are quite rare , it is very interesting that another one has made it's way onto the thread and that both cars have been restored. Great that they share such interesting histories.
