My Y-reg Boxster is likely to need new tyres when it goes through its first MOT in April.

I have the 17inch Boxster wheels with Continentals at the moment.

Grateful for suggestions as to

a) the best place to get new Continentals if the view is these are really the best

b) what covers to get instead of the Continentals

c) where is the best place to get the new tyres fitted (I live in Cheltenham and believe Pro-Tyre in Gloucester are good).

Personally I prefer the Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. I'm considering the "Cup" road-legal but really for track-days tyres next...but there again do I really want to spend more for tyres with a 6K life-span.

Don't know anywhere local to you but Micheldever Tyres in Hampshire stock absolutely everything and tend to be inexpensive. They have always fitted tyres well on my cars - even if it is a ballache waiting in the queue for it to be done.

(Others don't like Micheldever so much...but when phoning around for quotes give them a try...they might even be worth the drive over...)

There are so many factors here: use (road, road/occasional track, lots of track), driving style (porkgressive on-limit characteristics), wet vs. dry time spent driving, mileage per year, budget etc. etc.

As the tyres are the second biggest factor in a cars perfomance it's surprising that there's not more discussion on these so important black rubbery bits.

I've always used Micheldelver and got them to deliver to a local tyre fitter, who just charges a set amount per wheel for fitting and balancing. I've yet to find anywhere cheaper.

If your gonna try micheldever tyres ask about the premier service. First time its free.

You get to have an appointment and one "engineer" do all the work (tracking put the tyres on the wheels etc talk about the tyres they have etc)

Normal Price is £5 per wheel I think but if your going on a sat afternoon its gonna be worth it to jump the queues
