I've recently purchased a 996 C2. The car was missing a drivers manual (got one on order), went to start the car this morning and the battery is flat. The boot light appears to be on permanently and I think that this was the cause of the battery drain. If anybody could tell me how I can turn this light off I'd be grateful. Also there is a switch to the right of the drivers side in the footwell. Any advice on what this is would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Barry

The light shuts itself off after 2 hours. At least that is how it is in the US.

Not sure what switch you saw. Could it be the spoiler switch on the fuse box? Jeff

Right Drivers Side switch is most likely to be the Spoiler Switch.

If your cars Kitted, then it may well be a defunct switch.

The switch is used to manually raise and lower the Rear Spoiler (usually its speed sensative)

Just had a look in my manual and can't find any mention of a switch for the courtesy light in the luggage compartment (prob. in bonnet mechanism?). I don't even know how you would tell if the light remains on after locking. Just left the cover ajar when I locked it and it beeped at me (as it should) and left *all* the courtesy lights on, including the one in the luggage compartment. With the compartment shut, it's sealed and I wouldn't be able to see the light even if it were on. Couldn't you just take out the bulb? In the section on replacing the bulb, it says "With a screwdriver, carefully push out the light. Remove defective bulb from contact springs and replace. Insert the light into the cutout from one side then from the other. Check operation."

That switch in the footwell raises and lowers the rear wing, but only when the ignition is on.

Thanks for all your help. I'll re-charge the battery fully and hope that does the trick. Thanks for telling me how to raise the spoiler manually - at least that clears up a mystery to me.
