Coming home tonight after a trip out I noticed two possibley connected problems. One of the headlamps was glowing very dimly and wouldnt go on to main beam. The other prob was that the spot/driving lights would come on with main beam but wouldnt go out again, blinding oncoming drivers, so I turned them off.

I thought the headlamp prob would have been down to a duff bulb but it isnt, I'm now wondering if these probs are connected. Is there a relay for the main beam in the same way that the spots have a relay ? If so cold this be the source of the trouble ?

Any sugestions gratefully recieved

Cheers
Steve

My central locking is constantly trying to unlock, intermitently 24 hours a day Luckily the imobiliser still works and I don't leave anything valuable in the car. Is there any way to disable it? it must be shortening the life of the solenoids!

Sounds like the fault maybe at the light switch, which dash switch have you ? I had this type of problem with the rocker switch type. If it is the oval dash type it is still worth investingating the switch.

Anyone know how to make the central locking work, I can lock both doors from the drivers side but not unlock the passenger side.

Just a pure guess but take a look at the flexible cable that connects to the back of the lamp pod. Mine had frayed against a bit of bulkhead after many years of popping up and down and gave some wierd lighting combinations as it shorted.

I really think I need to disconnect the central locking - is there anyway to simply unplug it without having to take off bits of trim? I really don't like the thought of it trying to unlock the doors for eternity, can't do the solenoids or the battery much good

I think it will work if you disconnected the unit attatched to the steering column.
