Supercharged 911's

Hi there folks, does anyone have any good links to build threads or websites documenting the supercharging of 911's?

In particular, 3.2's?

I'm thinking ahead slightly and i'm convinced a SC'd Supersport would make a very nice machine to own.

I would suggest that the better job would be to turbo charge it rather than going the supercharged route.

There are a number of 964's that have been supercharged. You could try rennlist.

Hi there.

I own a supercharged 1983 911 SC that has the supersport body (fitted retrospectively).

The engine is from a 1996 911 (993 varioram) and the supercharger is a TPC unit fitted by Ninemeister (who did a cracking job).

It's pushing out 360 BHP (remapped by Wayne Schofield) and as it weighs only 1200kgs it's pretty nippy.

It is, as you say, a very nice machine to own. The power delivery is smooth and just keeps pulling and pulling.

The supercharger is a bolt on low pressure unit (adding about 4PSI) giving optimum cylinder filling. There was no need to modify the internals (compression ratio remains the same).

You should speak to Colin or Robin at 9M for more info (no affiliation etc)

May I ask why?

Personally i much prefer the power delivery of a S/C to a turbo. Also it's more simplistic installation and parts.

I'll not be going for big figures, just a very nice and responsive engine.

The reason I ask is that you may find that the power delivery has a "deflating balloon" characteristic which I would really hate on one of these cars, but may be your "bag" perhaps. I just bring it up as something to think about.

Make sure you have a good long drive before you decide. 993SC bought his from me and whilst I know he and others are very happy with it, I didn't like it at all. If anything I thought it seemed to dull the response. It felt more like driving my Audi TDI - loads of torque delivered with limited urgency

Agree with this but as my car is relatively light and benefits from the lightweight flywheel (amongst other things) it feels genuinely very quick.

My brother has a 3.2 putting out 240 BHP and the power delivery of my car is similar to his in that there is a noticeable surge in acceleration at 4000-5000 rpm. The main difference between mine and his is that my car pulls like a train from 2000 rpm (and then moreso at 4000rpm+). Hope I haven't contradicted my previous post now!!

Good point about the lightweight flywheel - lots of positive mention of these, if you can live with the rattle.

Mildly ironically I now have an Exige and am making a call this afternoon to see about getting it supercharged!!
