Thinking of selling my RS as soon as I can get it run in and on the rolling road after it's recent engine rebuild. Don't want the hassle of dealing with tyre kickers and living in Torquay it's quite a way to travel for most people. Was thinking of trying SoR with Autofarm from whom I bought the car but open to any better suggestions here.
Also, anyone any idea of cars value. Details are:-

red, lhd, Roock sportskit (power should be ~340bhp but rolling road should confirm), half cage, harnesses, 45k miles, in excellent condition, £13k engine rebuild 500 miles ago.

You are probably correct to avoid retailing [test pilots etc] Commission sale through a few of the established specialists will certainly return the highest amount poss [retail excluded]

993's have dropped a little of late but RS's should still fetch strong money e.g £50's in RHD £40's in LHD dependant on condition, history etc.

Are you replacing the car ? If so what with, if I may be so nosey ?

Regards

Allan

Not replacing it with anything really. Got a Caterham R300 which I can use for the track. Selling mainly due to lack of confidence in the car after the engine self destructing last year. I've got a 12,000 mile warranty on the engine rebuilt but this is voided if I take the car on track which defeats the purpose of having the car.

Jim, sorry to hear that the various problems you have had may result in you selling the car.
Unfortunately you don't seem to have had much luck at all, the nightmare seems to have been worse than the pleasure of driving one of these fine cars.

I would think it makes sense to go back to Autofarm, hopefully they will offer you a deal on the commision to help out with the hassle you have been put through.

I am more than suprised at the engine rebuild gurantee becoming void if the car is tracked, do they expect a red 1/2 caged RS only to be driven to church every sunday?

All the best, I am sure the caterham will offer even more thrills on the track.

Not wishing to 'get you started', but if you bought it from a dealer and it blew-up surely the dealer paid for re-build?

Tbh I wasn't surprised at the warranty being voided if taken on track. When I bought the car from Autofarm it came with a 3 month warranty which also would have been voided if car had been taken on track (in saying that I had the car on track 3 days after picking it up.) Engine rebuild was done by another engineering company and I was a bit surprised that I got a 12,000 mile warranty with it, was expecting much less.

Your Caterham warranty is also void if the car goes on the track, but at least that is cheaper to repair...

I bought my RS privately, but would have preferred to have bought from a dealer, even if it was a little more expensive. Strangely I came from a Superlight R to an R500 and then onto the 964RS...

I think Steve (getcarter) and myself sorted that issue out. After BMW had their arse spanked, Caterham came in for some criticsm on this warranty issue, and I believe that some leeway now exists. Maybe it doesn't.

We gave it a go though

Caterham is over a year old so out of warranty now anyway. I asked at the time and they said they would honour the warranty if problem occurred on track as long as I hadn't done anything stupid like buzzing the engine.
Are you the Clarkey that works for Sage and had a go in my 340r when I borrowed an ap-22 off you for someone ?

Surely the conscious selling of an RS is an offence punishment by exposure to Eastenders?

I know when Clubsport very kindly showed me the error of my over ballasted ways in his device, it became a richly retained memory.

Is there nothing to persaude our associate here to retain his affinity for ill-conceived leather demi-trousers, supported in all probability by lurid, red straps?

Domster, what on earth are you playing at?

Steve had BMW refuse a warranty claim because his E46 M3 had been tracked. We sent some press releases out and rattle the media cage. EVO, Autocar etc. picked up the story and asked manufacturers of performance cars exactly whether their track fodder was covered for track work, warrantywise. Many ummed and arrred, including Caterham, and then had to allow track claims because so many punters were pissed off that a claim may be refused. NB The argument was mainly that track slag cars should have track warranties, ie Porsches, BMW M cars, etc. all of which tend to be launched at tracks and driven around the Nurburgring in development. Fit for purpose kind of issue I suppose.

I am no expert but would say it's a tricky one to value. Upgraded engine/rebuilt engine/medium miles. Must be worth what you paid for it plus a few grand for the re-build!! £42950?? Would be interested to hear what they say. Offer them 7.5% commission max.

I'll give them a call tomorrow as the person who deals with sales isn't in today. I paid 43k for the car in April 2002 so would be nice to get most of my purchase price back.

You can start by sending digi-photos and a specification in to Steve in the office to post on our cars for sale section of the 9m site if this helps? Then there is always Pistonheads classifieds.

However, in return I would be interested to find out what happened to the engine and exactly what has been done to extract another 40bhp, I cannot wait to see the dyno results.

Thanks for the offer of putting an ad on your website but I really want to 'give' it to someone else to do it on a SoR basis.
Hows your German ?

Roock Sportsystem 993

RSC 335 - Basis 300 PS

Motor Modifikation

Sportluftfilteranlage-Sportauspuffanlage, Motronicbox (im Tausch gegen Serie), Drosselklappe (im Tausch gegen Serie), Nockenwellen incl. mech. Kipphebel

Basis: Porsche 993 3,8L mit 300 PS
Ergebnis: 335 PS V/max (km/h) 295

In addition to the above mines has something done to the cams (I'm not mechanically minded). This from the Autofarm sales blurb "The Roock Powerkit includes upgraded ECU, sports exhaust, throttle butterfly, Roock camshafts, air filter and in/outlet manifolds
". I believe that at least one of the regulars here has driven the car and said it is noticeably faster than a standard RS (I can't comment as this is the only RS I've ever driven) although whether it is another 40bhp faster I don't know.
The person doing the rebuild commented on the standard of work that had been done on the car internally. As you say the dyno results should be interesting.

Murray,

Have you tried contacting Thomas Schmitz at H&S Automobile in Germany. He deals with RS models and would be worthwhile speaking to. Just a thought.

Yip I've driven it & it was indeed the swiftest 993RS ive driven, engine was just so beautifully revvy too- quite different in character to a regular RS.

Jim I do think you are mad to sell but I'm just working out how I sell one of my kidneys to own it I think some fella recently got bids of £80k for his, so I should be able to afford it with a bit left over for a dialisis machine if I ever need it hmmm might need a bit of extra padding on the bucket seats for a while tho

Obiously I had driven it before the rebuild so not sure what its like now, but I would really love to drive this & compare with 9m's beast and also a standard car. Maybe @ Brunters?.......
