993 Suspension Upgrade
Discussion
I have a low milage 1996 993 C2 and think that the car's handling would benifit from upgrading the suspension. I track it a knockhill a few times a year, but also live in Edinburgh so have to drive on the cobbles so don't want a set up that is too hard or my fillings will fall out.
So what upgrade would be best, and does anyone know a specialist near Edinburgh who could carry out the work?? Thanks!

Can of worms I'm afraid - one driver's 'too hard' is anothers 'too soft'.
Popular options for shocks are
replace Monroes
- Bilstein
- KW
- H&R
Popular springs are M030, M033, Eibach, H&R and KW.
I have Bilstein HD, Eibach springs, height is approx. RS and I think it is perfect, but my other cars are not 'soft' so you might think that setup is too 'hard'.
Sorry.

as you might expect, nothing works well on bothso don't want a set up that is too hard or my fillings will fall out.
i'd fit a new standard setup
that, or Bilsetin HD as OC says above
i'd steer clear of the popular KW and PSS9/10 if you want a really comfy well judged road car

Slightly different to the 993, but I've got the Bilstein HD kit with Eibach springs (~30mm lower) TBH, there not a hell of a lot of difference between standard 964 ride and what it's like now. Probably because the 964 is pretty harsh as standard. 993 has a lot better ride than the 64 standard so might be more noticable.Brian Miller in Edinburgh fitted mine, reasonable price, and he know his stuff. I got the kit from this French place http://www.cupspirit.com/ about 18 months ago
Saved a pretty penny comapred to the usual UK places, though I'm not sure what thier prices are like at the moment.
The default option always used to be to leave the springs as they are and fit Bistein HD dampers, plus new bushes etc as necessary.
As the others have said there are all manner of other options available now. However, based on your requirements, you will not go far wrong with the above. The Bistein Hds are a firmer damper than the originals but since your originals are 10 plus years old you will probably see an improvement in ride with the Bilstein HDs.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

True, but the springs are 10 plus years old too. If you're taking the suspension apart, i'd definitely put some new springs on too while you're at it.As the others have said there are all manner of other options available now. Bilstein HD & H&R springs is a good all-round setup.

You can buy Porsche MO30 option upgrade springs and dampers from Porsche for around £400, so fitting these with new Powerflex bushes should be worth considering.
I think those were M033 with original spec dampers. So, lower ride height but no firmer than standard factory. i understand they were on special offer and are no longer available. They are a bargain if you can get hold of them. The only slight downside is that the original dampers were not known for their longevity, but you can worry about that in five or six years.

I think you getting confused with the M033 lowering sets OPC do for £408 + VAT (standard coupe)The M030 front struts are £312 each, springs are £165, rear shocks are £260 each springs are £121 so that makes approx £1430 + VAT
The tip/air con version is £493 but on backorder
