Main differences between 996 C2 and GT3 mk1?
Discussion
30mm lowered ride height
modified cast iron wheel carriers
larger 80mm wheel bearings
unibal spherical joints
rear spherical joints
adjustable arbs front and rear
monobloc calipers
reduced brake vacuum servo for increased feel
modified shift mechanism with 20% shorter travel
240mm clutch + flywheel
different engine, box, dampers, springs, bodywork, interior, C4 derived shell
and probably a ton of other stuff as well !

And don't forget that Gurney flap on the rear wing of the genuine article too !
My Carrera with the Cup aerokit also has the gurney flap on the lower part of the rear wing but it has been colour coded.Edited by Slippydiff on Tuesday 22 December 00:47
the front bumper on the GT3 is actually slightly different from the aerokit - there is a cut out under the number plate for an oil cooler; on the Carrera this area is filled in.

My old C2 also had colour coded gurney - IME, most aero-kitted cars do.ScottMc91 said:

Agree, there is the potential for the intake to be there, but it's filled with a colour coded blanking panel.Dan, why the "???'s" ?

What the main differences between a 99C2 and a Mk1 GT3?
Are the factory GT3 kits exact copies of the real thing?
Do all GT3's come with bucket seats and a cage or is this a clubsport option?
The GT3 has a 50% stiffer body (derived from the C4), with additional strengthing on the suspension pickup points. It's possible there is some partial seam welding but information is ambiguous on this. Are the factory GT3 kits exact copies of the real thing?

If the cup aerokit is a factory specified option on a Carrera, it would be the same. If a retrofit most go with genuine front and side PUs, but a replica FRP boot lid/spoiler due to the cost of the genuine Porsche composite item.
My understanding is that all of the 106 UK cars had composite bucket seats as standard. I have seen a GT3 with Carrera Sports seats, perhaps was a no-cost option or was a non-C16 car. I'm not entirely sure on this but perhaps another PH'er could add some light?
As already described there is a myriad of difference. The engine is very un-road-911-like since it is of a pure race-breed with exotic materials and surface treatments and handcrafted assembly. It is more akin to what you'd find in a LeMans racer, with the titanium rods permitting a safe 9000rpm, and a plasma-nitrided crank sat in 8 main bearings. The overall design is incredibly rigid. It is a much stronger engine than the Carrera unit (996 or 997).
The gearbox is from the 993 GT2 so has a good torque margin, and is easily rebuildable compared with the Carrera gearbox (which was until recently deemed a disposable unit - though is perfectly adequate in the Carrera, just not racing strength).
IMO you'll never get a Carrera to handle or even feel like a GT3.. Well anything is possible but you'd be spending more than the cost of a GT3 to achieve it! That's how deep-rooted the differences are.
