Hi All,

For some strange reason my Key remote controls have stopped working....and both of them!!!

I went out to the shop and all was fine, got back then all of a sudden the car wont lock or boot release wont pop!!!

Now I am locking the car with the key in the door, it now alarms up but when I unlock the car, only the drivers door unlocks and it does NOT reset the alarm. I then have to switch on the ignition before the alarm starts to sound, switch it off again then "re-unlock" the car with the key in the door before the car takes off the dead locks, before going on my way!!!!

I know it sounds a bit stupid, but why is it doing this and does anyone know a quick fix!?!?!?!

Hope you can help!!!!

Hi,

Strange how both keys have packed up ? When did you last use the spare key ?

Have you tried changing the remote batteries ?

When you press the remote buttons does the led flash ontop of the dashboard (can be seen from outside the car looking through the front windscreen ?

Lastly these 996/Boxster keys are not proving to be very reliable and if it needs to be replaced you wou.ld be looking at approx £140-00 per remote to be replaced and coded onto the alarm system.

Hope this helps

I had this happen last week. I was quoted about £140 by my local specialist but he did suggest to try a battery first. i bought one and it is now working better than ever. My spare key worked initially but then the LED stayed on - i guess this was due to the fact it had not been used for years - i pulled the battery from that and replaced it and it seems to work fine now. Good luck might be an easier fix than you think.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in the reply.

1) Yes, I have tried changing the batteies in both remotes,
2) The Led on the dash does NOT flash with the remote
3) And I hadn't used the other key for probably a few months but whenever I used it previously, it always worked.

I have tried to do a bit of reading on this, and seen things like re-programming. How can I tell if i just need to re-programme the keys I have or have to buy new ones???
Also, can I re-programme the keys myself (I've reading things like put the key in ignition and press buttons etc) and if so can anyone please provide step by step instructions.

I run a '98 2.5l 986 boxster!

Any help would be great!!!!!
