hi
just bought a 1985 924 auto and it looks pretty good. Its got wads and wads of reciepts and invoices plus last 11 MOTs.....Only think i can see wrong with this is a squeaking fan belt..difficult to sort out????? and maybe a blow on the exhaust.............is this car going to break the bank and make me homeless or can this classic still go on for a little longer??..mileage is 119000?

any advice would be great

The current problems (if they are the only ones) should be a doddle to fix. Find a cheap, local Porsche independent (look in back of 91 & Porsche World at larger WHSmiths or google it).

However, a 924 is a can of worms.

If the head gasket goes pop etc. you will quickly spend the purchase price again on running it. Keep your fingers more crossed than Iguana's pools coupon.

The blow on the exhaust is easy to do if it is from the exhaust system itself or the downpipes. If it is from the cylinder head to manifold joint, the best of luck. It took me almost a whole weekend to get the manifold off to fix a blow from there (and replace all the studs and nuts while it was off). Porsche seem to regard the manifold as part of the head. Dead easy to separate the two when the head is on your bench, when it is still on the engine in the car it's a different story entirely!
