I've just got an error message flash up on my PCM - 'System Error Navigation not available'

It was fine until I switched off, went into a shop and came to re-start the car afterwards.

Map won't work and Nav. CD won't do anything.

Any ideas?

press and hold 148 to reset see if that works if not you may have a fault in the most system..

You could also try pulling the fuses for Amplifier & Nav System (2 fuses), sorry, I can't remember the positions but just pull the panel off and there should be a fold out fuse layout diagram behind the panel.

Any error that flashes up with the 'not available' script is associated with the MOST system - the fibre optic cabling that the system communicates with. Usually a corrupted signal will cause the issue but it can be hardware based - the cables themselves have a few proviso's - no tight radius cable bends etc.

The fuse assignments will be D8, E6 and E8 IIRC. Pull out in that order, refit in reverse, then as Porscheuro says press 1,4 and 8 simultaneously on the numeric keypad to force a reboot. This may work to bring it back to life.

PIWIS can interrogate the system and carry out MOST system tests to check for faults - have you got an iPod adapter in the system?

Thanks chaps, I'll have a go in the morning.

Pope, no iPod connection, just a bog standard PCM.

Just re-set the system (1, 4, 8,- didn't pull the fuses) and it seems to have worked.
All nav. back on but the map shows the car to be in the same place as it was when it stopped working.

I'm guessing it'll change that when I go for a drive?
(Can't drive it just yet after a few too many malts last night...)

Cheers all. smile

Thanks TS, always happy to help!!

OP, the GPS almanac has to reboot(takes about 15 minutes if you're driving, if you can sit it outside, running with a clear view to the sky it may fire up quicker). If the system doesn't catch up on its own, check the status:

(NAV / Status / No. of satellites) - If it can't detect any, the location wont be set.

If you have satellites, check the location/destination settings:

Press Map / Press right hand roary switch / make sure 'location' dot is checked - you can force it by selecting 'destination' then repeating and selecting 'location'.

I've had this symptom when using a "backup" copy of the Sat Nav disc and found it to be too thick with an adhesive label on it wink

I had this problem once with a "back up" copy and was told that it could corrupt the PCM if not the original disc by the porsche service department.(dont beleive that)
unfortunately I had to have a new PCM unit on this occasion..not cheap!!!

Yeah. That is absolute rubbish. OPC just trying to protect their margins. It is simply a source of data and the PCM is a simple computer. It won't reprogram itself because the data cannot be read. rofl

Me too. I'm on the lookout for a backup copy of the 2009 maps if there's any about! whistle

Hi guys, I have a different Nav error message - just got in the car early this morning and it persistently displays 'Route Guidance not active' on the centre display. I first noticed it when the radio station would not display, because this Nav error did not go away. Normally I would assume a route has been set that is still in progress, but this doesn't seem to be so. I have unchecked the Status selection but no go.

Oddly enough everything seems to work OK, including the Navigation, radio, phone etc. I tested it on a short journey this morning and it's fine, so perhaps I need to restart/reset the PCM. I've tried the 148 reset and it does this in about 10 seconds, but doesn't change anything.

I accept this may purely be a PCM functional thing, but nothing I do seems to reset it. I've looked for the 3 fuses Pope identified last weekend in connection with the original problem, but I must be dull, because I cannot find two of them. Car is 2007 997. I can find D8, which is obviously the 8th from the left in row D, but there are only 4 positions for Row E.

If someone can point me in the right direction please .... confused

I am new to pistonheads, I have a 987 boxster 06 fitted with a PCM2, periodically I get a problem with my PCM2 in that it may not fire up and displays a White screen, I can hear the amp clicking but it will not start, this will continue until I stop and switch off. This may happen again when I start up or may start up fine. More often than not it's fine. Only once I have had a display 'System error: Phone, Navigation,System, Amplifier, CD Changer not available'. I have read the forum and note the 1,4,8 reboot and have taken a note of the fuses, but as my fault occurs more than the odd occasion, can someone advise if there is a more permanent solution. Porsche in Bristol cannot replicate the fault, so there only solution would be to replace the whole unit, but as it works more often than not I do not believe this to be the solution. Please help.
