996 burning smell

Advice please guys. New to Porkers so this may just be a trait of the cars, but after being on the wrong end of a damned good thrashing when I come to rest there is a burning smell apparent coming from the rear of the car (almost like hot rubber smell or an overheating engine, which its not).The car had a Porsche inspection before purchasing from a small specialist garage which showed up no faults. Is it because some german fool has put my engine in the wrong end

on 996 it is normally the brakes which give this smell.
