Ipod, Fantastic not!!

Just had Porsche fit the aftermarket IPOD adapter to my Cayman. You get two inputs, normal 3.5mm AUX or a 9 pin socket which Posrche give a lead for.
The sound quality with the 9 pin Porsche lead is excellent but not quite as good when using a normal 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead.
The really annoying thing is the Porsche lead does not charge my Iphone!!! Also the lead is only about 30 cm long. Bearing in mind the socket is in the arm rest, it means the iphone has to flop around on the seat and changing songs etc while driving is a no no as you have to look down at the handbrake to do it!!
Does anyone know where I can get a longer lead?? The chap at Porsche said that was the longest they did. I have visited Maplin with no joy and can't find anything on the internet.

My wife's SLK had the "iPod integration kit" fitted (a cable hanging out the console) which Merc charge around £300 for (lucky we got it as part of the deal). I was not impressed it did not even charge the iPhone but the Apple store now sells the charge converters

You can get a cheap AV lead (the one with three plugs and the iPhone connector) off a well known auction site for a couple of quid. Cut the yellow plug off as it won't work with an iPhone, on the cheap ones any way.
You then have two audio plugs. You can either get an audio to stereo jack converter (Maplin do one) or cut off the audio plugs and fit the stereo jack yourself.
"But I have no power!" you shout.
Simples - get the lead (as described above which also has a USB plug on it. Get a USB charger cigarette lighter conversion plug, of which there are many, also from the site as above....Job's a good'n.

I had a Mobridge iPod and bluetooth fitted to my 997 which streamed music from my iPhone and i could also plug it in. It works so well I wish it had been fitted when I first got the car. I bought it from www.selectautosystems.co.uk i can post a couple of pics if anyone wants.

Albeit the iPod says it's not charging it NEVER seems to lose its power!!!
Also, I recently asked the same question about the lead & someone answered it with a very sime but overlooked solution. That is to just by an iPod/phone lead extension, cheap as chips on both fleabay & amazon.
