Afternoon Chaps

One of my customers with a 997 Turbo has been wanting a 997 Turbo Tip Cab in white for about a year.
Not having found one for a year, we have offered him the option of a black one which can be "wrapped" in white.

Does anyone have any first hand good or bad experience of this process ?

Feel free to recommend any tried and tested firms.

Hello Joel, I've heard good things about Racoon but not first hand...they are only in Maidenhead if you wanted to check them out personally.

Can personally recommend Sean at Creative FX in Kent, who bends over backwards to help me out. The owner likes his toys to, so you should have plenty to talk about.

looked into doing this myself on a black 996, spoke to my signwriters who have a "wrapping" company and they weren't keen to do it. the grills in the bumpers, in and around door handles, there will be joins etc. He said it would look great from a distance but thought that i'd be disapointed with the end result (he knows i'm quite fussy). He did however try to talk me into doing it in a new carbon effect vinyl. Still not sure!! £1200-£1500. the white would have been a fair bit cheaper. £800 i think.

I've seen a matt white wrap and it looked perfect, everyone expects white to be glossy but the matt texture and look really suited the car.

There can be massive gap in quality of fitting so its worth trying to see their operation if they are close by.

I had mine done by Mick at Rage Designs in Warrington. I was really pleased with the result.

He wrapped my grey 996 to white. He is a total perfectionist and was the only company that said he wouldn't have any visible joins on the panels. Each panel was done with a seperate sheet of vinyl.

As described above it is a wrap and not a paint job, but many people mistook it for a paint job when it was first done. If you look closely at door hanldles etc you can see it's a wrap, but I am very pleased with the outcome.

I can sort of see the point of wrapping, particularly if you are off on a rally to somewhere where paint damage might be an issue. But I have to wonder how often those guys nick the paintwork accidentally with their scalpels.

I would not use Creative FX. I had problems with my paint shield and they did not want to know.

My friend is thinking of selling his White 997 turbo tip cab. It's only done about 10k in the last 2 years. Let me know if you are interested and I'll pass on his details.

The only issue i have is when you want to remove it. i have a company i work closely with and they have wrapped a number of there company cars for advertising purposes. when they come to remove the wrap, every time it has removed some of the paint from the bumpers....the cars aren't porches, but it would still worry me....

I get the impression that the wrapping isn't the greatest challenge here. It's the unwrapping that gives me the heebie jeebies.

How many people here have had their P&J successfully unwrapped after a couple of years?

I took my clear front end wrap off the Ultima after 15,000 miles and 3 yrs of hard euro and track tailgate hooning. I didn't know quite what to expect as the tape was fairly scarred from stone and debris impact. All came off with no drama in on piece and the car looked brand new - save for one ding that had made it through. Not bad VFM. Would have been a whole lot worse without.

Another vote for Mick - Not had my car wrapped, nor seen his products, but we've spoken many times, very nice chap and would be my first port of call if I were looking to do a wrap.

Totally agree. I have heard some horror stories of people who had luxury/sport cars wrapped and unwrapped and some required full respray. Would be interested to hear if someone on this forum had a porker fully wrapped and unwrapped?

I know a guy who had to get his CSL full resprayed after unwrap. Not sure whether this affects everyone or not but v offputting.
