Boxster brakes - advice please
Discussion
Well it's time for new pads and discs all round on my 2.7 Boxster. Options are: specialist (CamTune or Northway) with 'Porsche parts' at around £700 or can anyone recommend particular discs or pads (or are the Porsche ones the best choice)? I don't use the car every day, it's more of a weekend / fair weather thing and hoping to get a track day in this year. Any advice much appreciated.....
When it comes to brakes fit Genuine Porsche parts all round (if you enjoy life) unless you specifically want uprated track pads or discs. I would insist that they are supplied in Porsche boxes as well, do not be fobbed off with "these are original equipment, Sir", at the end of the day you will be safe with standard parts.
Camtune may be able to offer savings on parts prices and labour over most main dealers, although be aware that some dealers are fitting brake parts labour free, such is their profit margin on the parts.
Finally do not forget to change your brake fluid since it only has 2/3 year service life.

There's almost as bewildering an array of brake options as there are suspension options (almost), based on such factors as mileage, use types, budget, trackdays etc.
You don't mention what kind of driving you do, whether you do track days...
The best starting point is Porsche OE I guess, but from there on find a competant tech/racer for advice...

The brake pads sold in the US and sold by Porsche have a cold and hot friction rating on the back, rated with 2 letters. The higher the letters the better. The front pads Porsche sells for the 2.7 are made by Galfer and are rated FF. Some of or local guys buy aftermarket pads at a fraction of the price which are FE.
Porsche does not make brake pads so I would not get hung up on buying from Porsche. Instead, I would buy based on the rating. Jeff
