Hi Folks,
Just bought a 1978 911SC Targa and can't get the smile off my face. Need a bit of advice.... The engine has been rebuilt using high comp pistons etc (but not camshafts) which has raised the BHP to 204. The engine is now effectively 1981 spec with the later throttle body. The distributor (replacement from 81 engine) has been set up to give 3deg advance at 950rpm and 24deg advance at 4,000rpm, the vacuum advance is not connected as (the previous owner says) it is not needed and was not present on the previous distributor! "Bentleys" says advance at idle should be 5deg (plus/minus 2deg) at 950rpm and 26deg (plus/minus 2deg) at 6,000rpm but is this only for the 180BHP (US) engines? The car runs fine and pulls like a team of horses when you press the go juice (smile comes onto face). Should I leave as is or start drilling holes in manifold to connect the vacuum advance or change ignition advance or what? (I've almost convinced myself to leave alone!!) Gratefull for any advice.
