The area under the passenger seat is sodden (broke my ankle so haven't driven the daily hack for over 4 weeks) which according to Porsche is where the electrics for the alarm/immobiliser are located. Apparently its common for the drainage holes to get blocked which causes the issue. The car will not start at all and the alarm is going off every 15 mins!!

I guess the fact the car hasn't moved in 4 weeks and been sat out in the elements has not helped the situation!! Any help/similar experiences/resolutions would be much appreciated....

Thanks,
Rich

If there is that much water under the seat, the alarm box is also full, you may be able to dry it out or may have to be replaced, rear drains always block up with debris.

Hi,

First thing is to disconnect the battery and the alarm siren which is located on the right hand side of the battery, just unplug it once removed (13mm nut) and wrap it in an old towel as it has an internal battery back up.

Charge your car battery as its more than likely flat.

I would remove passanger seat and dry the alarm control unit out.

Try it then (still with alarm siren disconnected.)

If no luck get it looked at as you may need a new module, all interior carpets removed and replaced/dried... this can take weeks ! and then fix the cause.

If worst case scenario you could be into £1800-00

Thanks very much for the swift responses, will nip out now and try to dry it out - fingers crossed it works... Is there anyway to unblock the drainage to avoid this in the future - also where are the drainage units that cause this?

Quick progress (or lack thereof) update - took the battery out and re-charged as it was naturally flat as a pancake, then put it back in and the car would start however exactly the same issue with the alarm - it went ballistic for 15 mins until we removed the battery...

Does anyone have "idiot proof" instructions for how to disconnect the alarm?

Can I suggest that whoever responds to this request from the op does so via pm or email so as not to broadcast to the world how to disable a Boxster alarm. smile

Managed to remove the seat, electric box, dry out the car (it was v wet!) but to no avail, the electrics look to have corroded!

Does anyone know where I could get an electric box at a reasonable price?

Hi

the same thing happend to mine , the leak may have come from the water catch pan under the roof, as my roof broke due to a nut and cut the cath pan and then water leaked in i bought my alarm module from porsche hatfield i think it was around 230 pounds, i stripped carpet and dryed with my cousins help when dryed it all cleaned drainage holes and removed all rust that was there from leak and painted it took over a week u also need to get the alarm module coded to your car etc i think porsche will have to do this but my cousin had someone that did it for us and charged 120, all in the roof fixed and new module drying etc cost me around 800 in his labour and parts.

Thanks Axel, do you know where the drainage holes are for the Boxster? I found one under the bonnet at the front but couldn't see the one at the back/passenger door side. I'm hoping that by just replacing the alarm module and getting it coded (would your cousin be interested in some more business?) and fully dried out it should be ok?

my wife had the same problem a couple of months ago. The drain holes can only be seen when the roof is stopped in the half open position

ah, therein lies the problem, the car wont start for me to get the roof to that position, incidentally had your car sat idle for a while before the problem occurred? Mine sat on the drive for 6 weeks (broke my ankle) and then the problem occurred (after lots of rain and having not moved at all).

The causes of the water ingress are usually ,coming past the door membranes and leaking onto the inner sills and then into the carpets or the rear drain trays which are situated near the roof gearboxes, these either get blocked up or they get cut/damaged and then leak water into the rear behind the seats and into the control units,if you do need a new control unit be sure to get the correct one, different country versions operate on different frequencies (sticker on control unit )

Does anyone have any pointers on how to remove the carpet (I understand it's a one piece) for the 986 Boxster, we thought we had dried it out but after going back a couple of days later it's sodden! Going to try and dry the carpets out fully by removing them.

Help appreciated

One we repaired a while ago. Note it had been "looked" at by someone else previously....

New alarm module, wiring repair and coding fixed it.

Thanks very much for sharing, how much and from where did you source the alarm module? Who did you get to code it?

Hi Axel,

How did you remove the carpet from the car, I understand it is a one piece carpet, any tips would be appreciated?

Thanks

Apologies for the bump - can anyone advise the easiest way to remove the carpet from a 986 Boxster?
