(I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, I'm a bit new to this lark. If it's not Ted, feel free to place it elsewhere.)

Mark, I just wanted to say a really big thank you for taking me around Bedford Autodrome in your very competent 968 today. It was a big thrill to go out with someone who knows how to drive his motor, though you seem too modest to accept such praise. I was a little surprised to discover that it had standard brakes and springs because it stops and handles very, very well. Though a trackday novice I have a fair bit of experience of 'handling' cars, and yours felt so right. Now I just have to get a 968!, Bearing in mind that we don't actually know each other, (apart from swapping handles on this forum) i thought your offer of a taxi ride was a very generous thing to do and just underlined the spirit that Pistonheads and a love of cars (particularly Porkers) generates. If you ever want to test drive a 993 (assuming you havn't). just let me know, i would be more than happy to let you try mine.

PS: I though there was something poetic about the way we 'bumped into each other' out near the pit corner, as I'm not really the type that usually approches people (bit shy).

vincent (veewhy)

thanks for the thanks, i suggest you go ahead and book your own trackday very soon -- could be the start of something.

i am going back to Bedford on 24th April with the same organiser -- if you can afford it come along, it would be great. If not driving come again and get stuck in to a few more rides, pay the £25 fee, bring your helmet and talk your way into a few passenger seats -- easy peasy.

the offer of a drive in your car is a really nice idea but more importnatly you should start going up your own learning curve.

i got my son's friend a ride in the very fast Caterham R400 (green & wing)of Peter Unwin -- I can tell you it has changed his life!

all the best

he had a problem with the crotch strap at the beginning, all very tight so his chance of a family may have been ruined as well

Now, Now, Dom..., what i meant by poetic, was that the very first person that spoke to me, was Mark, the same bloke that said come along (to bedford) following my initial message (see none-participating track days) in the first place. So, i just thought it was kind of poetic that he was the one that actually encouraged me to get of me arse and go there in the first place, I didn't mean it to sound gushing, but i did intend the sentiment, unlike the twats who request 'songs to their beloved's' via a DJ (if Bates can be described as such). In hindsight, perhaps I should have just sent him an email, if only to avoid the cynical taking their oxygen quotient.

I agree with Domster a Master Bates session should get it out of your system, Veewhy.

Wasn't meaning to take the p1ss too much. It's just that the word 'poetic' rarely makes it on to these forums

The Caterham was fantastic as was the rest of the day...thanks paul! It is an awesome car and very, very quick! Yes, I may be a little big for a caterham and the strap through my legs was a little tight but all is intact! No worries bout being a family man! I do think the 15stone I weigh may have caused Peter to adopt a slightly different style of driving tho! 968 was wicked and loved the track - legalboy does seem most at home on the track! Looking forward to 24th.

No prob, Dom. I did actually think your 'inverse riposte' was actually quite witty, amusing and succint enough not to be offensive. As for poetry, it has a place in the soul, especially when it's in motion...

Dom, i can't help it, somebody help me...

It may be that flat six growl
Or perhaps that variocam howl
It could be the promise of thrills
Without the need for mind altering pills

It’s not just that wonderful air-cooled noise
Or feeling so sure footed when covering ground
speeding along with such purpose and poise
When that big rev counter is just spinning around

For sure It was Ferdy’s original dream
But Butzi knew better and took the cream
When he said this will not do..., why only four?
Let’s make it a flat six and add another two more

And my father just for good measure
I’ll draw a shape for all ages to treasure
As he began to style a vision of heaven
Which all the disciples will know as the nine-eleven

But whatever it is, I just love it to bits
With a shape so honed and sublime
I’m just so grateful that I can say
Now it’s a 993, and I just call it mine
