After what seemed like an age of reading about how much fun Porsche ownership could be on this forum, I finally took the plunge a couple of weeks back.

The primary motivation for this purchase was a Domster arranged pax lap of the Nurburgring in Dazren's 996tt x50 last year, which left me in the car park looking at my Ducati 996 and thinking how do I persaude my wife to let me empty the joint account.

You guys should be on commission....

Anyway, on Wednesday my '96 993 C4S was delivered fresh from a valet by the dealer and unfortunately its driving me mad.

Between test drive and delivery it appears to have developed the creakiest windscreen on the planet and I am uncertain what to do about it.

Other than that I love it!

I have heard the creaky windscreen is something many of the 993s have when replacement screens have been installed. Someone should be a long soon with some definitive suggestions.

Glad you enjoyed the Lap at Nurburg.

This is the easiest DIY in 993-land.

If you look on rennlist.com in US, there are MANY threads about this fix.

I did it myself, using Pedro's Ice Wax - a silicone lubricant - about 9 months ago, and have not had any squeeks since. Mine was really bad. when I did the front screen, which goes silent, I discovered the back was also bad, which I then did, and discovered some other squeeks!

Anyway, the fix works. Welcome to 993 ownership!

Hope so Dom.

I have some silicone spray in the garage so I think I will see if it does the job this evening.

Can't wipe the smile off my face since it arrived.

Must throw away the cd multichanger too.

I think, if I remember correctly that Porsche actually used a PTFE tape around the seal to stop this, my 964 should have the screen glued in, but Autoglass and others do not do this on replacement screens in the uk......maybe this is the cause.....

I bought the car at Autobahn in Coventry and they have informed me that this is a common problem on 993s and it is indeed the ptfe tape that has broken down and caused the issue.

Thankfully, they have offered (without me asking!!)to get the screen refitted with a new ptfe tape to cure the noise.

When I took out the warranty with them as part of the deal and they said it would be no absolutely no quibble and that the first money I would have to spend on the car would be the next 12K / annual service.

Typically, I am quite sceptical about dealerspeak especially when they know you really want the car, but on this occasion I am pleased to say that (so far) they appear to have actually meant it!

Ian,

I read that you were throwing away your CD Multichanger, if so, do you have the SONY panel that goes on the dash, I have lost mine (nicked), but still have the multichanger. let me know what you want for it. I can drive up and collect it from you.
