IPhone & my Porsche Cayman

Hi all,
Got my Porsche Cayman last month and I've had trouble marrying my iphone up to the 'prep for mobile phone'. I can link my iphone to the unit but can't transfer my contacts into it. Went back to Porsche who had a look and said you'll have to refer to your phones manual (can't find anything in it to help. If anyone has any advice it'd be greatly appreciated.
Another gripe picked the car up not one call to see how I am getting on and no break down details or the trip to Silverstone, poor after sales service!

Before ordering my gen 2 Cayman S (with PCM 3.0) I told the dealer I wanted to use my iPhone 3GS with the PCM.
He recommended the telephone module option.
The car came with telephone module and was set up to use the PCM's "SIM access profile" (SAP).
iPhone didn't work.
After taking it back, the Porsche technician reprogrammed the PCM to use the bluetooth "handsfree profile".
iPhone sync'd up first time and now works nicely.
Now, as long as I have bluetooth turned on on my iPhone, I just get in the car and the phone is paired automatically within about 30 seconds or so.
With handsfree profile I can use the PCM to search and dial from the phone book or choose previous numbers called, missed or received.
Also, I use a separate iPod to listen to podcasts via the USB interface.
When I receive a call, the PCM will pause the iPod to allow the call to be taken and then resume it when I hang up.
That's pretty much all I want.
I can't do text messaging via the PCM, as is possible using SAP, but who cares.

Did you get a full tank of gas as well when you picked up your Cayman? and have you had any break down information sent through as well? He recommended the telephone module option.

Its great I had a Merc SLK 280 before and loved that but the Porsche is in a differant league, a real drivers car so much fun. Just the noise from the engine bring a smile, putting the foot down in 4th going up a hill wicked and the handling geez I can go on and on. This might sound daft but I was impressed with the wind screen washers the way they spray the fluid on the glass just perfect! I got all the breakdown information when I collected the car. I'm not expecting anything else to be sent.

I have the latter in my Spyder and have the same problem. My iphone works via bluetooth but I cannot access any contacts from the phone via the car.
Neither Bolton nor Wilmslow OPCs know how to fix this. The car's handbook says to refer to the separate PCM handbook which is helpful as I don't have PCM fitted! Apparently for some reason Porsche were supplying new Caymen and Boxsters with PCM manuals and I am still waiting for the CDR22 manual...

The manual baffled me as well as my iphones! what I ordered was the £436 order no 619 'preperation for mobile phone' I did not go for PCM and was assured by my OPC the iphone works fine on it! Same thing happens to be the number comes up and I haven't a clue who it is.

Sorry about the guff I wrote above regarding SAP (Sim Access Profile) not working with the iPhone. While true, this only seems relevant where the car is fitted with PCM.
The iPhone appears to only work with HFP (Hands Free Profile) which both...
- the PCM (with option preparation for mobile phone (option 619) or telephone module (option 666)
and
- the CDR-30 (with option preparation for mobile phone (option 619))
will support...
Pete, it sounds like your car, fitted with CDR-30 (with option preparation for mobile phone (option 619)) is indeed pairing with your iPhone - and presumably your able to make and receive calls through the CDR-30? - but you are not able to import your iPhone phonebook to the CDR-30.
Is this right?
If so, have you got or read this Porsche phone/bluetooth guide?

phone from the CDR-30?
The CDR-30 does not support the automatic transfer of
phonebook contacts from the mobile phone. You do,
however, have the option of transferring individual contacts
or even your mobile phone’s entire phonebook list to the
CDR-30 manually. Enable download mode on the CDR-30,
select the contacts you want on your phone and transfer
them via Bluetooth®. Note, however, that not all phone
models support this option.
The guide is worth reading in full if you haven't already.
You'll also need the CDR-30 manual to work out how to "Enable download mode on the CDR-30" - but I couldn't find an online version.

Can't fault the effort there thanks for that even though it appears iphones and porsches don't get on. Just wish my dealer was more honest as he knew i had iphone and you can be sure they all know this problem.
Still love my porsche and wouldn't change it, dealer will be getting a grumble or two!

It just reminds you doesn't it, that the OPC's don't always understand the technology they're dealing-with? At least they're not as up to date as they should be. Come to think of it, that covers the cars as well doesn't it?
