How often does your PCM Audio output stop working.

You may need to re set the system or up date it via cd.
This kept happening to mine and a kind chap on 911uk sent me a copy of the up date disc.
To re set the system you need to press 3 numbers and for the life of
me I can't remember which ones! Sorry.
Try a search on here or 911uk.
I'm more than happy to pass on the disc to you if you require it.
Edit - appears you need to press 148 on the keypad.

Thanks for the response.

You can try just the re set using 148 (hold the three buttons down together) or you may need an update disc to re boot the system which is a different disc to the sat nav ones.
I'll dig the disc out when I get home if you want it.
That would be great if you could do that for me. Just tell me what I owe you.I'll dig the disc out when I get home if you want it.
Thanks very much.
Frank.

Is it a Bose system? If so, there is a TSB (15/03) about "Sporadic Sound Failure", and the amp software needs updating. I assume this is the disk that Zip106 is referring to (Part number 000 043 205 50). If not, drop me an email.
Ah, Richard, it was you I got the disc off!
i'll wait for Frank to reply just to be sure that that's the problem with his PCM.

Thanks again.

ps yes it just seems to be the sound. Nothing. Even the Sat Nav is silent. But after removing the igg key and starting the car its ok again. Done it a few times in the last couple of months and say about a dozen since I have had the car. (2007)

From the TSB:
Model Year: Model Year: ‘03 (3) and ‘04 (4)
Concern: BOSE amplifier – Sporadic sound failure in vehicles with PCM2 (I No. 665, 666, 668, 670) and BOSE sound package (I No. 680).
- Modified software in BOSE amplifier MY ‘04 (as of the date of introduction).
Information: Sound failure occurs sporadically (no sound playback of PCM2 during radio or navigation operation) on vehicles from MY ‘03 and MY ‘04 with the equipment mentioned above, which were manufactured up to the introduction date mentioned below.
In the event of a complaint, the software of the BOSE amplifier must be updated using the CD "BOSE Update-CD 2003-2; 911 & Boxster", part number, 000 043 205 50.
After the update, the software matches the version in vehicles from MY ‘04 (as of the date of introduction) and thus BOSE amplifier, part number, 996 645 333 05.
Introduction: Introduce the new BOSE amplifier software on August 25, 2003

I believe I am having the same problem: "System Error, CD Changer, Amp and Phone not available". I'm driving a '04 996 40th A, so fall into the time bracket you are describing. Can't seem to track down that CD you mention anywhere online though... where can I get it from?
Thanks!

That error isn't the one discussed above. What you have is a communication failure in the MOST fibre-optic loop, which connects the devices external to the PCM head unit (in your case, CDC, amp, and phone module). MOST carries all the sound and control signals. Any break in the MOST loop will prevent these units from communicating with each other. First off, try the system re-boot by pressing the 1, 4 & 8 buttons at the same time.
If that doesn't work, there are a few other things to check. The obvious thing is the fuses. Next, does the CDC cartridge eject? If not, it may have blown a fuse INSIDE the CD Changer. You have to remove it to access the glass fuse on the circuit board. Then check the fibre-optic connections at the CDC, amp (in the front boot), and phone module (under the driver's seat (RHD). They are black plugs with two orange cables running in to them.
Hello all,
I am getting into this very interesting topic.
I am experiencing exactly the same issue with my Porsche Boxster S Phase 2 3.4 2009 with PCM 3.0 and Bose sound amplifier.
I have a random cutout of the front stereo sound (only the analogic rear woofer still works) when driving around 45 minutes and stopping the engine.
When I start the motor and PCM again, the issue appears.
When there was no sound I was seeing errors relating to the MOST communication between the PCM and amp.
I have to wait around 15 minutes in order to the see issue disappear : the front stereo sound comes back to normal without any issue.
It does not happen when driving less then ½ hour…
My batterie is 100% brand new (Porsche OEM).
I think it is coming from the amp that is over heating and when starting it again, the wake up electronic relay does not work until the temperature is lower …
Based on your through, which test can I do to identify the root cause ?
1) PCM update My PCM version is 1.41? How to do it without going to a Porsche reseller and buy a lot ? And not loose my MAPS license. Is there a DVD to do it ?
2) Is there a real TSB fix ? How to apply it ? I understand that there is a CD ROM available somewhere ...
3) Bose amplifier update? I do not know my actual version. How to know it and forecast an eventual update ?
4) Make the Bose amplifier repaired (around 250 euros in Germany).
What would you do please ?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
JC
